Despite Cold, Hundreds Pay Tribute to Chief O'Connell

Hundreds of area residents, police officers and people whose lives Tinley Park Police Chief Mike O'Connell affected waited for hours in the cold Sunday to pay tribute to the late officer of the law.

. He was 60. .

As the day went on, a hazmat decontamination truck was used as a makeshift warming station and coffee and hot cocoa were offered to the mourners. It took mourners upwards of three hours to get in the door to give their respects. The village was running shuttle buses from alternate parking sites and the southbound lanes of Oak Park Avenue were closed for most of the day by the funeral home.
