Driver Crashes Through Restaurant's Window Pane; Showers Customer With Glass

A man drove through the front window at Dragon Palace Wednesday night.

A woman who was waiting for her food at Wednesday evening was showered with glass when a 52-year-old driving a sport utility vehicle crashed through the restaurant's front window.

Emergency responders were called to the strip mall at 7122 171st Street—near Harlem Avenue—at 5:27 p.m., according to a news release.

"The driver said the vehicle surged forward, striking the front window and entering the restaurant," said the release, which identified the vehicle as a 2011 Kia Sorento.

The victim, a 51-year-old woman sitting just inside the pane, fell on her knees when the damaged window frame struck her chair, the release said. She told first responders that she wasn't hurt.

Representatives from the Tinley Park Building Department inspected the structure and allowed the Chinese dine-in and carry-out to stay open.

The restaurant looked unscathed around 9:30 p.m. The glass pane had been replaced and two decorative pieces from the village's " sat outside its windows, as they always do.

officers hadn't cited the driver for the crash as of 7:50 p.m. Wednesday.
