Hoosier Driver Tells Tinley Cop He's in 'East Chicago or Somewhere': Blotter

Tinley Park police reports, March 21-23 • Richton Park man buys food at Culver's with fake $50 • Homer Glen woman hides merchandise in a mattress pad • Shoplifter gets away in a Buick.

SATURDAY, MARCH 23

'About 10 Beers'

Benjamin Lee Anderson, 34, of the 1500 block of South Cherry Creek Lane in Warsaw, IN, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08 and driving without insurance, according to a report. Police were called at about 3:47 a.m. to the 6600 block of 175th Street by someone claiming a Buick was parked in his front lawn. The same person called back a short time later to say the car was driving away and that he was following.

Police caught up to the Buick, driven by Anderson, on 175th Street, according to the report. Anderson told police he thought he was in “East Chicago or somewhere east of there” and had drunken “about 10 beers” and “a couple shots, too” over the last several hours. He took field sobriety tests and was arrested. He later took at breath test, the report stated.

Anderson is due in Bridgeview court on May 10.

FRIDAY, MARCH 22

Using a Fake $50

Demare Antoine McBride-Belcher, 22, of the 3900 block of Tower Driver in Richton Park, was charged with theft by deception, according to a report. He is accused of using a fake $50 to buy food at about 2:56 p.m. in Culver’s, 18248 Sayre Ave.

Police found McBridge-Belcher, who appeared nervous and out of breath, in the 18200 block of Sayre Avenue. He matched the description that a Culver’s employee had given and was arrested, the report stated.

Hiding Merchandise in Mattress Pads

Jennifer Elizabeth Siano, 27, of the 16900 block of Meadowcrest Drive in Homer Glen, was charged with retail theft, according to a report. She is accused of taking more than $1,000 worth of items from the bedding, jewelry and intimates departments in Kohl’s, 7500 W. 191st St.

One store employee said Siano appeared to be hiding several pieces of merchandise under her clothing after leaving a changing room, the report stated. Another employee checked the fitting room and found several empty packages and price tags on the floor, the report added.

Siano then paid for two mattress pads, worth $133.73 and left the store. She was stopped and detained by employees, who found that several items where hidden in the mattress pads, according to the report.

THURSDAY, MARCH 21

Shoplifter Gets Away in Buick

A “bed in a bag” and four pairs of pants worth $450 were stolen from Kohl’s, 7500 191st St., according to a report. A store employee told police he watched a woman take the items, walk around the store and talk on her cell phone, asking where a companion was. She then left through the south doors, the report stated.

An older, four-door, dark blue Buick with Indiana registration pulled up as soon as the woman left the store, the report stated. She reportedly tossed the merchandise into the Buick and left immediately. Police were unable to locate the vehicle, the report added.
