FBI Investigates Fraud Case, Man Takes off on Stolen Bicycle and More

SATURDAY, MARCH 31
Warrant Arrest
Kelly K. Benson, 45, of the 7300 block of West 61st Street in Summit, was arrested around 8:20 p.m. in the 17100 block of Harlem Avenue on a warrant out of the Palos Heights Police Department. She was also charged with driving with a suspended license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Her bail was set at $5,000.

FBI Investigates Fraud Case
A local woman called police to report that someone had stolen her identity. She said was contacted by her accountant, who told her he was unable to file her taxes for her because her Social Security number was already linked to a tax return.
The woman contacted the IRS and was told that both she and her husband's address and Social Security numbers had been changed. The agent wasn't able to tell the woman when the changes were made due to the infractions connected with her identity, the report said. IRS representatives told the victims that the FBI would be looking into the case.

Two Warrants
Lawrence Murillo, 26, of the 16000 block of South Olcott Avenue in , was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on two warrants, one out of Cook County and one out of the . The combined bail for the warrants was $15,000.
THURSDAY, MARCH 29
An Abandoned Diaper Bag
Officers found a diaper bag around 4 p.m. in the Tot Lot near Skyline and Terrace drives in . It was lying in front of a row of bushes, police said, and contained four diapers, a red and blue toddler's shirt, a Winnie the Pooh bib, 11 children's toys, a bottle of baby lotion, spoons, a comb, a straw a flashlight, a pacifier and a cell phone. Police were working to track down the owner.
Landscaping Equipment Stolen
Landscapers were working at Bettenhausen Recreation Center, 8125 W. 171st St., , around 1:10 p.m. when they packed their equipment in the back of a flatbed truck so they could go to lunch. When they got back around 2:30 p.m., one leaf blower and two trimmers were missing. The equipment was valued at a total of about $1,000, the report said.
Man Takes off on Stolen Bicycle
Around 8:30 p.m., a man snagged a Trek mountain bike that was parked in front of CVS, 16701 S. Harlem Avenue in . Surveillance footage shows the bicycle owner leaving it there, unsecured, while in the store for about 10 minutes. The thief is shown walking through the parking lot, stepping in the store to look around, and then exiting, hopping on the bike and riding away.

Graffiti on a Pole
Police found graffiti on a light pole around 9:45 a.m. near the intersection of 180th Street and 88th Avenue in . The word "ASHAR" was sprayed in black paint, the report said.
