Hamill to Newspaper: 'To Me, This is a Great Outcome'

Dawn Hamill, owner of Dazzle's Painted Pastures Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, spoke Saturday to Sun-Times Media about the verdict in her animal neglect case. She was found guilty Friday on eight of 10 misdemeanor charges.

A day after , Dawn Hamill, owner of , presented her side of the legal proceedings to the court of public opinion, telling a reporter from Sun-Times Media that her biggest mistake was employing the wrong person.

“As an owner, I hired the wrong employee," Hamill said, referring to Christine Kelly, who testified against Hamill. "I fired her before I was even arrested. (She was) the worst employee I could have ever hired.”

“The end result is beautiful. I can’t complain. I’ve never lost my license. I’ve never turned away an animal. To me, this is a great outcome. I’ve never been shut down, even for one day. I’m ecstatic.”

On how she treats animals in her care

“Every time I see a crippled animal come here, I know he or she will be loved for the rest of their life. I know what I do, deep in my heart.”

On being called "Dazzle Dawn" during her trial

“No one has ever called me ‘Dazzle Dawn.’ Beautiful nails can do concrete work, dig in dirt, shovel horse stalls and pick up animals. He said ‘Dawn Hamill does nothing at all.’ That’s not true."

Hamill's sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 25.
