Man Hides in Dumpster During Police Foot Chase, Charged With Resisting Arrest

A man and woman left a cab without paying the fare, and the man led police on a chase in Tinley Park.

A driver from McNamara Cab Co. flagged down a police officer around 8:20 p.m. Sunday after he said two patrons he'd driven to Tinley Park from Chicago left his car without paying a $60 fare.

The taxi driver described the man and woman and knew that the man's name was Antonio Garcia, according to the police report.

"The female subject was going to get money for the taxi … and went into the condo unit ... on West 181st St.," the report said. "While waiting for approximately 20 minutes, the male subject exited the taxi and walked away. (The driver) asked the subject to stop, he ran away and was hopping fences through yards."

Police saw Garcia running westbound on 180th Street from Oak Park Avenue and began chasing him, according to the report. When they lost sight of him, they used a canine in the search. They found him in a dumpster behind a business in the 17900 block of Oak Park Avenue, they said.

Garcia "pushed away" police and "twisted around" while they were trying to take him into custody, according to the report. He was charged with resisting a peace officer.

While booking Garcia, police said they found an identification card for the female passenger. Police went to her home, where her mother answered the door. The mother said she came home and found her daughter passed out drunk on the couch, according to the report.

"(The suspect) was bleeding from her knuckles and (her mother) advised me that she broke mirrors in the residence by punching them," the report said. "(The suspect) advised me she couldn't find her debit card to pay the cab and she passed out."

The suspect's mother gave the officer $60 for the cab fare and police gave the money to the driver. No charges were filed against the female suspect.
