Man Posing as a Tinley Park Employee Plays Role in Ruse Burglary

A 78-year-old man said he was fooled by an older Hispanic man who claimed he was a village staff member, and about $2,000 worth of jewelry and coins were stolen.

A man posing as a employee helped orchestrate a ruse burglary late last week at a home in the 17000 block of Cherry Creek, .

The 78-year-old resident said an older Hispanic man with white hair and a short white beard approached him at his house on Aug. 19 around 4 p.m.

“The suspect stated that (village employees) were doing work in the area and that they were concerned with possible flooding in (the victim's) backyard,” the report said.

The white-haired man entered the home and had the resident and the resident's wife follow him to the backyard, the report said. He then spent 15 minutes there and was speaking in Spanish over a handheld radio the entire time.

After the mysterious man left, the homeowner’s wife noticed that several valuable pieces of jewelry and silver coins were missing from the house.

Included on the list was a gold wedding ring, two gold watches, a gold chain and pendant, several silver quarters and silver dimes. The items had a total worth of about $2,000, police said.
