Man Reportedly Shoplifts More Than $1,600 in Women's Clothing

Police arrested a Calumet Park man around 7:10 p.m. at Super Target in , where they said he wheeled a cart filled with women's clothing and cosmetics out the door without paying.

Torrey B. Swinney, 20, of the 1200 block of South Ada Street in Calumet Park, was charged with one felony count of retail theft at the store, 7300 191st St. He was with "several females" who were reportedly loading a shopping cart with miscellaneous clothing and cosmetics, the report said.

Police said the women left the store and Swinney stayed back with the cart. He then pushed it past the checkout lanes and out the door, police said, where he was detained by store security. The value of the merchandise in the cart was $1,675.69, according to the report. Swinney denied knowing the names of the women he was with.

Warrant Arrest

Taylor A. Ziyad, 19, of the 9300 block of South Thomas Avenue in Bridgeview, was arrested around 11:55 a.m. on a warrant out of Tinley Park. Ziyad was in custody at the Bridgeview Courthouse when he was arrested on the warrant. His bail was set at $10,000.

Windows Shattered

A couple said that sometime between 8 p.m. Jan. 2 and 10:30 a.m. Jan. 3, someone shattered the windows to a 1997 Chevrolet S10 and a 2004 Dodge Caravan that were parked in a driveway in the 7400 block of West 162nd Street in Tinley Park. Police said multiple windows on each vehicle were busted and that the damage may have been caused by a baseball bat. Evidence technicians analyzed the scene.

SUNDAY, JAN. 1

Beers vs. Pitchers

When an officer allegedly saw a driver not wearing his seat belt near the intersection of 175th Street and Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park, he pulled him over.

Police said Joseph Bukowski Jr., 50, of the 7700 block of Bristol Park Drive in Tinley Park, smelled like alcohol when he was stopped around 3 a.m.

Asked if he'd been drinking, he said "yes," according to the report, and admitted to having "one to two beers."

"I asked Joseph how large the 'beers' that he consumed were and when he began drinking," the officer wrote in the report. "Joseph replied that he'd consumed one to two pitchers of beer and that he began drinking around 12:30 a.m."

Bukowski reportedly failed field sobriety tests and blew a .094 on the Breathalyzer at 3:25 a.m., police said. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08 and failure to wear a seat belt.

Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident

arrested Jamie E. Vasquez-Reyes, 32, of the 700 block of Landau Avenue in Joliet around 5 a.m., when they said he lost control on the off ramp for Interstate 80. His vehicle slid across the roadway and struck the cement wall on the bridge, they said. Police charged him with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving with an expired license and driving without a valid driver's license.
