Man Used Cooking Pot as Weapon, Police Say

A local man armed with a cooking pot attacked a neighbor last week.

Police say a 24-year-old man armed with a cooking pot attacked a neighbor last Friday after a verbal argument in their building on West 174th Place.

Lazarus McCormick, of the 6700 block of West 174th Place in Tinley Park faces one count of battery causing bodily harm. Police said that around 11:45 p.m. Aug. 31, neighbors saw McCormick charge a 33-year-old man who he had been arguing with.

Witnesses said they saw McCormick on top of the man, who he reportedly knocked to the ground, dislocating the his shoulder. He was threatening the victim while on top of him, according to the report, and admitted to police that he struck the victim in the head with a cooking pot. 

The man was taken to a local emergency room by a friend, police said. McCormick was charged with battery causing bodily harm and posted $1,500 bail. The pot was placed into evidence, according to the report.
