Mother Says Her Drug Addicted Son Likely Stole Her Jewelry

Tinley Park police are investigating a local theft.

A local woman called the cops last week after realizing that a coin collection and $2,000 tennis bracelet were missing from her residence on 179th Street in .

She told police on Nov. 17 that her son, who has been battling a drug addiction, moved back home with her in August 2010. For a time, he was receiving treatment and living with his grandparents but was kicked out when he was caught stealing his grandmother's wedding ring in Orland Hills, the police report said.

The mother said that on Nov. 16, she noticed the diamond bracelet missing from its box. The coin collection had also vanished.

She later found a box in the furnace room that contained drug paraphernalia and the receipt for the bracelet, which was previously kept in the jewelry box, the report said. When the woman asked her son if he had taken the bracelet, he said no. He did admit to snatching the coin collection, though.

The woman hasn't been able to reach her son since earlier this month because he is homeless, the report said. Police left him a voice mail to contact them. Charges had not yet been filed as of Monday.
