Motorcyclist Cruises by Cops, Drives on Sidewalk, Crashes and Runs

Tinley police chased a 22-year-old Shorewood man Monday, finally catching up with him after a crash.

A motorcyclist flew by police this week riding 50 mph over the speed limit. And he kept going.

said they tried pulling over the biker shortly before 11 p.m. Monday in the 7800 block of West 167th Street after they clocked him cruising at 85 mph in a 35 mph zone, according to the report. He was later caught driving on a sidewalk where people were walking and he eventually crashed near that area, cops said.

Jason R. Stuedemann, 22, of the 25900 block of Timber Ridge Drive in Shorewood, didn't pull over his 2001 Suzuki R6 motorcycle when police sounded their sirens in pursuit, the report said.

Instead, Stuedemann sped west through a red light at Harlem Avenue, where an officer decided, for his safety, to put the chase on hold.

"I stopped for the red light and … notified communications that I attempted to stop the motorcycle," the officer said in the report. "I explained that I was no longer attempting to stop (him) and that (he) was traveling at a high rate of speed."

Other officers later saw Stuedemann speeding again on 167th Street and then driving on a sidewalk on the west side of 76th Avenue, they said. The report said he eventually crashed in the 7800 block of West 167th Street and ran away.

Stuedemann was apprehended, placed under arrest and charged with speeding more than 40 mph over the posted speed limit, disobeying a red light, fleeing and eluding police, disobeying a stop sign, driving on a sidewalk, reckless driving, improper lane use, violating his license classification and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Cops had the bike towed.
