High-Heel Shoes Tracked Beloved Teacher's Blood to His Front Door

Young woman accused in Brother Rice teacher's death held without bail. Prosecutor says she stabbed him 13 times.

A trail of bloody, high-heel shoe footprints marked a path from Al Filan's slain body to his front door, prosecutors said Thursday, and the trail of evidence led police to a 20-year-old Ohio escort with a history of prostitution arrests.

Filan, a teacher at Brother Rice High School for almost 40 years, was stabbed 13 times and died in the kitchen of his Orland Park home where he was found Jan. 21. Prosecutors said Alisha Walker, a prostitute Filan found on Backpage.com, argued with Filan over money and stabbed him in the chest and behind his ear. He also sustained defensive wounds to his arms.

Walker appeared before a Cook County judge Thursday to face first-degree murder charges and was held without bail.

Assistant State’s Attorney John Dillon said police found Walker after examining Filan's phone and finding text messages to a phone number connected to Backpage.com, a notorious hookup site for prostitutes and johns.

The young woman's family claims Filan threatened Walker and a companion with a knife and she killed him in self-defense.

Filan was found on Jan. 21 when he didn't show up at school. Police then tracked Walker down in Indiana on Friday, Jan. 24. She was taken into custody and held at the Allen County jail until she waived extradition and was returned to Cook County on Wednesday.

A memorial service for Filan will take place at the school Friday, the Sun-Times reports. Filan was chairman of Brother Rice's business department and coached soccer at Andrew High School in Tinley Park for more than 10 years.

Am I missing something? He was killed by his prostitute. The whole seedy part of his life seems overlooked.

@ Brad Lighten up Mr Perfect. The man didn't deserve to die, be stabbed or be subject to your ultra critical comments after his death. Since he can't I will tell you to shut your holy then thou opinionated pie hole. Got it?
Annette Host January 31, 2014 at 04:53 PM
Brad I agree with you....it is no means a disrespect to the man who has died...however as a teacher as well I am very cautious with what I do outside of school..we have images to protect and maintain
Brad Bennett January 31, 2014 at 05:45 PM
I was thinking the same thing. He was teaching young impressionable boys by day and haggling over fees for services performed at night. I'm sorry for family.

@TONY why don't U do the same maybe he didn't deserve to die like others ,but he as a so-call great teacher he should have looked into that the world that he enter does get violent, people who are involved in this business have issues and sometimes take it out on others, just check the news there R stories on a regular basis were things go wrong on these types of hook-ups.Like they say live by the sword die by the sword.

While I most certainly don't condone prostitution, the respect this man had in his professional life should not be overlooked or overshadowed by the unfortunate events that led to his demise. Clearly, he made a poor choice, but he's a single, 61 year old man looking for company and other things obviously. Is he to go to the local bar, dating websites where if he chooses to have a one night stand, he gets judged by the local community cuz he socialized in the same community in which he lived? Perhaps, "paying" for it spared him from community scrutiny, and maybe came with an STD free guarantee...can't get that from a local bar hookup! Alas, it went down as it did. May he rest in peace and his family heal from the humiliation this, undoubtedly, will bring on his family. I'm certain he's disappointed. If he did his job, well respected, not a bit of scandal or question in his career, leave his personal life to be just that, personal.
They Don't Get It February 02, 2014 at 09:02 AM
The facts are laid out. This man taught young men by day and entertained prostitutes at night . I don't see how he is different from any other criminal. It is a crime to order prostitutes. I don't think he deserved to die, but we don't know what happened. If he will request a prostitute and let her into his home he is capable of doing other things. Either way this is tragic !

Harry and all you other miserable hand wringing busy body opinionated freaks! Your insinuations that he may have been involved with other dark antics relative to his teaching profession or has discredited the profession? It's miserable people like you that are probably the type that wouldn't help an ol lady cross the street or recognize a person in personal distress that sunk to a standard below that which he leads all other aspects if his life. Let's open your entire personal life and the misdeeds. You'd probably make this man look like a saint! As started earlier, on behalf of this man ...shut your opinionated pie holes...Gladdis Kravitzs and your shallow lives!

No one is perfect. Yes, he should've known what can possibly happen when dealing with an escort but hey if you are lonely, I guess your mind is more towards wanting to not be lonely. His choice. Do not judge.
Brad Bennett February 05, 2014 at 11:12 AM
A few obviously feel the need to defend our 'beloved' teacher who was involved in the formation of young men. And being lonely is reason to associate w/ known criminals and, in fact, commit a crime yourself? Phssst
Tamara February 05, 2014 at 12:28 PM
I did not say that I agree with what was going on. Looking at it from an outside view, loneliness does make u not think 100% straight. Just an opinion. So Phssst yourself!!
Tony February 07, 2014 at 12:33 AM
Formation of young men? Quite a strange choice of words Brad. The man was a high school teacher. Some make impressions and influence students while others don't . I didnt know this guy from Adam but I sure as hell know he didn't deserve to be stabbed to death nor should you defame this person after his death I suspect he made more of an impact and contribution to society than you based on your cowardly disrespectful and uninformed comments. Suggest you watch the movie "What Dreams May Come" with Robbin Williams. You may learn something about life and death you shallow bafoon
Brad Bennett February 07, 2014 at 10:28 AM
Your resorting to name calling clearly defines you. I'm now just hoping you don't have to die for your crimes or defending those of others. Rest in peace, my friend.
Tony February 07, 2014 at 06:28 PM
Off topic but good luck to you sir
Harry Callahan February 07, 2014 at 08:47 PM
@Tony hey dumbnuts did you really read my comment on Filan or are U just putting words in that I didn't say, well Tony do U really know what the f your talking about there are thousands of records of people that experienced violent run-ins both male and female in the prostitution business now were do I say anything bad in my comment about the teacher other than with his so call knowledge that he enter a world he didn't know much about because U get something U enjoy U really don't know what is on the other side of the picture now take your butt and go bark at the moon and Tony about helping a old lady across the street I would probally cause U to have a heart attack if I showed U my record of Valor.
Tamara February 08, 2014 at 04:04 AM
why do u have to resort to name calling? what's done is done. This is why there is so much hatred in the world today. u don't even know one another yet you are assuming. so sad.
Tony February 12, 2014 at 02:02 AM
Callahan. I said shut the pie hole. Go take your live by the sword comment to a surviving family member or shoot your mouth off at the mans funeral or wake. Yea, thought so...not such an innocent comment after all. Certain areas legalize this trade in the US and I certainly do not condone it but the man didn't deserve to get hacked to death nor should derogatory comments be made. And your comment is derogatory. Who's the dumnuts or You may just simply be a social Baffoon frequently inserting foot in mouth.
