One Charged in Smokey Top Armed Robbery

The robber detained by the clerk in the Dec. 28 attempted armed robbery has been released from the hospital and charged with aggravated robbery, police said.

Anthony Griffin, 42, of the 18600 block of Becker Terrace, Country Club Hills, has been charged with aggravated robbery for , police said Tuesday.

Griffin, who was  and taken to an area hospital that night, was charged early Tuesday morning as he was due to be released from the hospital, police Cmdr. Pat McCain said.

Police are still looking for two other men in the robbery, McCain said.

McCain would not comment on how Griffin was injured or on reports of gunfire during the robbery, citing the ongoing search for the other two men. He said police are investigating whether these are the same men involved in a .

"We're looking into that, but I don't want to speculate," McCain said.

During the Dec. 28 robbery, three men, two of whom were armed, entered the store at about 7:15 p.m., demanding money. Employees managed to detain Griffin and the other two men fled on foot.
