Orland and Tinley Police Find Car Filled With Fake Checks During Traffic Stop

Police pulled over a car Friday with three suspicious people inside, they said.

Police said they found a "large number of checks" in a vehicle during a midnight traffic stop on Friday that believed were fraudulent.

initially pulled over a car of three suspects near the intersection of 80th Avenue and 159th Street in , according to the police report. Officers "flagged down" to help with the stop. During a search, officers found checks from multiple businesses and names in the car. Some of them appeared to have been used, police said.

" …(Employees said) the groups attempted to pass multiple checks for various items multiple times but at no point thought of calling the department," the report said.

Police were given a copy of the check used to purchase the electronics and they said it matched a number of the checks that were found inside the vehicle. Because the check had not been ruled fraudulent by Super Kmart's electronic system, store representatives said they didn't want to sign complaints.
