Out-of-Town Duo Reportedly Shoplifts More Than $700 in Smell-Goods from Tinley Beauty Store
Tinley police arrested a man and a woman Friday night and charged them with felony retail theft.
An employee of a local cosmetics store called late last week to report that she saw a man and a woman cutting “smell-goods” out of their packaging and stuffing them in bags.
The duo was later identified as Heather L. Benitez, 35, of the 5700 block of Archer Avenue in Chicago, and Raymond Monzon, 41, of the 4600 block of West 79th Street in Chicago, police said.
Each was charged Friday with felony retail theft for stealing more than $700 in cologne and perfume from Ulta cosmetics, 7350 W. 191st St., police said.

The two spent about 10 minutes in the store before an employee followed them out and watched them pace up and down the parking lot rather than getting into their car. The suspects knew the woman was on their trail, the report said.
Police caught up with the pair in the parking lot around 7:40 p.m.

"I observed three boxes of cologne/perfume on the trunk of … the vehicle along with a large silver purse containing seven boxes of cologne/perfume," the report said.
Police said the Ulta employee who initially spotted Benitez and Monzon found a small pair of scissors in the store that police believe they had used to cut open the packaging.
