Selective Thief Targets Tinley Park Condominium

Police said someone stole more than $200 from a folder of cash in a local residence but left behind about $1,000. The person also snagged a sweater and watch, but didn't touch several laptop computers or other pricey electronics.

Thieves only took a small amount of a cash last week from a stash they found under a mattress in a local condo.

A couple living in a condominium on 71st Street called Jan. 3 after they realized someone had stolen a watch, sweater and small amount of money.

There was no forced entry to the unit, police said, and the sliding glass door and main door remained secured. But someone stole $280 from a small folder that was under the mattress in the master bedroom, according to the report.

The victim said that when he came home at 1:15 a.m., he noticed someone had locked both locks on the crates he keeps his dogs in. He never locks both locks, he said, and considered it suspicious. That's when he and his girlfriend checked the residence and noticed the missing belongings.

They said they believed someone burglarized the residence between 7:30 p.m. Jan. 2 and 1:15 a.m. Jan. 3. The case remained under investigation last week.
