Police Apprehend Man After Tools Were Stolen from Tinley Park Menards

Police say Chicago man took more than $600 worth of tools from Menards before being apprehended in Oak Forest.

Menards’ slogan is “Save big money at Menards,” but a Chicago man apparently had his own idea of how to save big money.

Anthony D. Henderson, 44, was charged with felony retail theft for stealing tools valued at over $600 from Menards in Tinley Park.

A loss prevention agent at Menards, 6851 W. 159th St., called police at 6:58 p.m. on Aug. 10 to report a theft after watching Henderson exit the store with several items without paying, police said. Police followed a car that traveled north on 159th Street and then pulled into the rear of B & M Auto Sales, 15820 Arroyo Dr., in Oak Forest.

Henderson got out of the car and jumped a fence, while police detained the driver, Jesse E. Cooper, 46. Police apprehended Henderson a short time later at the intersection of 159th Street and Arroyo Drive.

Officers found a glass pipe in Cooper's shoe, and they found a Bosch drill/driver and a Bostitch siding and fencing nailer in Cooper's car. The Menards employee came to the scene and identified the stolen goods and ID’d both men as being the suspects in question.

The retail value of the two stolen items totaled $648.83, according to a receipt provided by Menards.

Police said Henderson refused to answer questions, while Cooper cooperated with questioning and told police he was unaware of Henderson's intentions to steal from Menards.

Henderson, of the 7000 block of Laflin in Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft.

Cooper, of the 4500 block of N. Broadway in Chicago, was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
