Police Blotter: 2 Men Go Fishing for Rent Checks at Local Apartment Building

WEDNESDAY, MAY 11

Window Smashed

Someone smashed the window of a car parked near the intersection of 67th Avenue and 172nd Street between 10:15 p.m. May 10 and 12:45 a.m. May 11 and stole a Garmin GPS, police said.

SUNDAY, MAY 8

Debit Card Fraud

Someone used a Tinley Park woman’s First Midwest Bank debit card information to make several fraudulent purchases, police said. The purchases included $147.85 at a liquor store in St. John, Ind., on May 7 and, on May 8, $602.23 at a Staples and $867.59 at a Walmart, both in Mount Prospect, police said.

SATURDAY, MAY 7

More Debit Card Fraud

Someone used a Tinley Park woman’s First Midwest Bank debit card information to make $406.72 of purchases at a Joliet Walmart and $675.17 at a Bolingbrook Walmart between 9 and 10:20 p.m. May 7, police said.

SUNDAY, MAY 1

Fishing for Rent Checks

Video surveillance showed two men using a string and something attached to the string to fish envelopes out of the rent drop box for an apartment building on the 5900 block of Lakebluff Drive, Tinley Park, police said. The first man is described as a black male with a thin mustache and goatee, medium to heavy build, about 5 foot 10 inches tall, and wearing a dark hooded jacket, Levi’s jeans, white Nike shoes and light-blue boxer shorts. The second man is described as a black male, medium to heavy build, about 6 foot 2 inches tall, and wearing a red Adidas hoodie, Converse type shoes with white laces, dark pants and light blue boxer shorts. Management told several tenants to stop payment on the checks.
