Police Blotter: A Ton of Stolen Scrap Metal; Obstructing ID

Tinley Park police reports, June 13-14.

TUESDAY, JUNE 14

Stolen GPS and CDs

A 27-year-old woman, of the 7100 block of Laverne Lane in Tinley Park, called police around 8 a.m. after realizing her car had been ransacked. A GPS, a multi-tool and about 100 CDs were missing from the vehicle, she said. She said she believed someone broke into the car between 9 p.m. June 13 and 6:30 a.m. June 14. Police collected and fingerprinted the evidence.

MONDAY, JUNE 13

A Ton of Stolen Scrap Metal

A 39-year-old man called police to Anchor Abrasives, 7651 W. 185th St., Tinley Park, around 9:30 a.m. after he reviewed surveillance footage from outside the business. He said that around 2:30 p.m. on June 11, a man got out of a white conversion van on the west side of the building near a dumpster where 1.5 tons of scrap steel had been deposited. "The man used a pulley system that was installed in the rear of the van to lift the steel from the dumpster into the van," the report said. The footage shows the man arriving around 2:27 p.m. and leaving at 2:40 p.m. He was wearing a hat and had a ponytail. Police kept a copy of the footage, but as of Thursday afternoon no arrests had been made.

Obstructing Identification

Mario P. Parks, 22, of the first block of Iliad Drive in Tinley Park, was arrested around 4:55 p.m. near his home on a warrant out of Cook County for obstructing identification, police said.
