March 6

Damaged Guardrail

Mario A. Mares, 28, of the 4300 block of Scott Street in Oak Forest, was charged with damage to village property, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, no insurance and failure to reduce speed to avoid accident. Police said Mares’ car struck a guardrail in the 6600 block of North Street and took off. He was stopped in Oak Forest for an unrelated traffic offense around 2:30 a.m., according to the report.

March 5

Made for Walkin'

Jade A. Silva, 21, of the 1700 block of Penny Court in Bartlett, was charged with retail theft. Security at a store in the 16300 block of Harlem Avenue told police that Silva hid a bottle of cologne in her purse and put on a new pair of boots before leaving around 3:30 p.m. The items totaled $91, police said.

Driving with Malt Liquor

Briana C. Nowels, 21, of the 6700 block of S. Cornell Avenue in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence, failure to reduce speed to avoid accident, leaving the roadway, no insurance and open alcohol. Police said Nowels caused an accident near 80th Avenue and 159th Street around 12:15 a.m. In her backseat, police found an open bottle of malt liquor, according to the report.

Maybe She's Just a Jets Fan Being a Jets Fan?

Police are looking for information about a group of women who started a fight inside the Charley Horse restaurant around 11 p.m. Police said one of the women began a verbal argument, while a second woman threw several glasses of beer and punched a man in the face. A third woman attempted to keep the peace, but all three fled the bar before police arrived, according to the report.

The woman who tossed beers and fists was described as “heavyset wearing a New York Jets knit cap” at the time, police said.

March 4

Stolen, Broken Vodka Reported

Police said a black male, about 60 years old, 200 pounds and 6 feet tall, left a retail store in the 16300 block of Harlem Avenue around 2:30 p.m. with a bottle of Grey Goose vodka. He was stopped by security on the way out and broke another bottle of vodka before jumping in an “older black Chevy,” according to the report. The car was last seen heading south on Harlem Avenue past 167th Street, police said.

Twitchy Bus Stop Creeper

Police said a white male, about 30 years old, 165 pounds and 6 foot 4 inches, with black hair, approached a 13-year-old girl waiting to board a school bus at 168th Street and Westwind Drive around 7:45 a.m. and began talking about trees. The man was wearing a blue zip-up sweatshirt with a blue undershirt and black jogging pants at the time and quickly walked away when another parent approached the bus stop with a child, according to the report. The girl told police his face twitched every few seconds.

Intent to Deliver

Dylan L. Skilnik, 18, of the 10500 block of Ridgeway Avenue in Chicago, was charged with felony possession with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said Skilnik met with an undercover police officer in the 9400 block of 179th Street around 11 p.m. and was prepared to sell him $400 worth of marijuana. In his car, police found two knives, a grinder, a digital scale and a glass pipe with residual marijuana, according to the report.

Attempted Burglary

Haralambos G. Boutos, 18, of the 16800 block of 92nd Avenue in Orland Hills, was charged with criminal damage to property and criminal trespass. Police said Boutos and several juveniles were arrested in the 9400 block of Perth Avenue around 2:15 p.m. for breaking a house window in an attempted burglary.

FEB. 26

Chest Trouble

Nicholas M. Ross, 28, of the 11200 block of Champlain Avenue in Chicago, was charged with criminal damage to property. Police said Ross walked into traffic near 81st Avenue and 169th Street around 8:45 a.m. while talking on his cell phone. A car stopped and honked its horn, provoking Ross to kick and dent the front passenger side door, according to the report. Ross was transported to Palos Community Hospital, complaining of chest and back pains, police said.

FEB. 25

Cruelty to Animal

Carla A. Bowers, 44, of the 5000 block of Lakebluff Avenue in Tinley Park, was charged with cruelty to animals and animal disturbing the peace. Police said Bowers left her dog on her apartment balcony for three days without food or water. In the cold conditions, it barked for days, causing neighbors to finally call police, according to the report.

CAR BURGLARIES REPORTED:
  • A tom-tom GPS device and some loose change were stolen from a 2003 Toyota Corolla parked in the 16900 block of 82nd Avenue sometime between 5 p.m. on March 3 and 8 a.m. on March 4, police said.
  • A purse containing a Citizen’s Financial checkbook and debit card, $15 cash, several credit cards and two sets of keys was stolen from a 2006 Honda Odyssey parked outside the Tinley Park Fitness Center sometime between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on March 5, police said.
  • A purse containing $80 cash and three debit and credit cards was stolen from a 1997 Ford Explorer parking outside the Tinley 24/7 sometime between 10:30 p.m. and 10:50 p.m. on March 1, police said.
  • A package containing a Hoover Nano Light vacuum was stolen off the front door of an apartment complex in the 17200 block of 71st Avenue sometime between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.on March 2, police said.
