Heroin User Steals TVs

recently arrested an out-of-towner who they said tried nonchalantly walking out of a local store with two TV sets he hadn't paid for.

Larnell Thomas, 46, of the 13400 block of Ridgeway Avenue in Robbins, was arrested around 1:30 p.m. at Menards, 6851 W. 159th St., . A manager at the store called the cops when he saw Thomas place a 32-inch LCD television and a 40-inch LCD television into his shopping cart before wheeling it past the checkout counters, according to the report.

He reportedly then exited the east doors of the store before being stopped by the manager. The manager asked Thomas if he had a receipt for the TVs and Thomas said he didn't have a receipt but planned to return the merchandise for a refund.

Police said Thomas agreed to reenter the store and although he tried walking away from staff, he eventually was placed in the security office.

"The suspect advised … that he was a recovering heroin user but was stealing the TVs to sell for money for Christmas," the report said.

Thomas' wife stopped by the police department to bring him medication he'd been taking for his heroin addiction, according to the report. He was charged with one count of felony retail theft.
