Blotter: Alleged Drunken Driver Doesn't Know Address; $20,000 Rings Taken

Also in today's police blotter, a couple writes fake checks to pay for bingo games and another pair shoplifts cologne. These reports are from March 1-3.

SATURDAY, MARCH 3 

Alleged Drunken Driver Doesn't Know Home Address

Officers began following a 42-year-old driver around 2:20 a.m. after they reportedly saw him disregard a traffic light and swerve over lane lines in the roadway.

When they stopped Michael J. O'Neill, of the 19600 block of Old Coach Trail in Frankfort, he couldn't give police an accurate answer as to where he lived, according to the report. He repeatedly told them he lived at "196th Street and Oak Park Avenue" in , which doesn't exist within the boundaries of the village.

O'Neill allegedly failed field sobriety tests. He was taken to the police station and after initial reluctance, he agreed to provide a breath sample and blew a .193. He was charged with disobeying a traffic control device, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane use and driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08. 

$20,000 Engagement Rings Taken

A man called police around noon to report the theft of a women's engagement ring set that he had taken with him Feb. 29 to LA Fitness, 18400 Convention Center Drive in Tinley Park. He was at the gym around 4:30 p.m., according to the report and left the locker room to head home around 5:30 p.m.

In his gym bag was a platinum ring set that included one ring with a brilliant cut diamond weighing 2.01 carats that was mounted in a six-prong head. The rings were appraised at $19,900, according to the report.

"Victim said he had the ring set with him because he wanted to take it to the bank and place it in a safe deposit box, but hasn't had a chance to yet," the report said.

He believes he may have dropped the box out of his gym bag while he was changing his clothes. When he returned to the gym, an employee told him someone had turned in an empty engagement ring box.

FRIDAY, MARCH 2

Fake Checks for Bingo 

A director for Southwest Community Services went to the around 11:30 a.m. to report that in February, one of her volunteers accepted a $150 check from a couple who wanted to participate in the nonprofit's regular bingo games. The bank alerted the organization that the check wasn't linked to an account. The woman in the pair also wrote a second fake check for $60.

THURSDAY, MARCH 1 

Cologne Shoplifted

Police arrested a man and a woman last week who they said stole five bottles of cologne from a local cosmetics store.

Jeffery M. Ghere, 38, of the first block of Old Farm Court in Bradley, and Dana R. Bisaillion, 40, of the 300 block of South Fulton Ave., in Bradley, were arrested around 11:55 a.m. in a parking lot in Brookside Marketplace.

Officers were contacted by employees of Ulta Cosmetics, 7350 West 191st St., who gave a description of the car the two got into after they reportedly stole from the store. Police tracked them down in the Best Buy parking lot. They found one bottle each of of Paco Rabanne, Blue Polo, Acqua di Gio, Usher and LaCoste colognes in the car.

Ghere was charged with one count of retail theft. His bail was set at $1,500. Because Bisaillon had a criminal history that included a conviction for residential burglary, she was charged with one felony count of retail theft.
