Police Blotter: DUI Arrestee Says He Was Walking Home; Public Intoxication

March 20

Big Purse?

Susan A. Barnes, 43, of the 7100 block of 107th Street in Worth, was charged with retail theft. Security at a retail store in the 16300 block of Harlem Avenue told police that Barnes left their store without paying for 14 video games totaling $375 and a bottle of aspirin around 4:30 p.m.

March 18

Drive/Walk Home

Thomas D. Ruane, 33, of the 17700 block of 67th Court in Tinley Park, was charged with DUI and disobeying a traffic control device. Police said they stopped Ruane’s car at 175th Street and Oak Park Avenue around 2:30 a.m. for stopping in the middle of an intersection at a red light, and then swerving between lanes.

Several times throughout his interview, Ruane asked police how he could be arrested for DUI when he was walking home, according to the report.

Feet From Home

Courtney A. Bequeaith, 30, of the 6800 block of 179th Place in Tinley Park, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage and driving in the wrong lane. Police said they stopped Bequeaith’s car within a block from her home around 2:15 a.m. for driving in the wrong lane and swerving.

March 17

The Long Goodbye

Jonathan L. Jackson, 25, of the 1200 block of Emerald Avenue in Chicago Heights, was charged with battery and criminal damage to property. Police said Jackson pushed another man and threw his cell phone against a wall inside the inventory building at CarMax around 2:30 p.m.

Jackson was fired from CarMax the day before and told police he returned to pick up his last paycheck when he got into a fight with a former co-worker, according to the report.

Swerve and Protect

Robert C. Padilla, 42, of the 7700 block of Moody Avenue in Burbank, was charged with DUI and improper lane usage. Police said they stopped Padilla’s car at 159th Street and Oak Park Avenue around 12:30 a.m. for swerving between lanes.

Public Intoxication

John W. Ludwig, 25, of the 13600 block of Laramie Avenue in Crestwood, was charged with consuming alcohol in public and arrested on an active DuPage County warrant. Police said they saw Ludwig drinking a can of Bush beer at 174th Street and 70th Avenue around 3:30 p.m.

What Do You Hear, What Do You Say?

Hopeton L. Scott, 22, of the 14000 block of Kilpatrick Avenue in Crestwood, was charged with retail theft around 11:45 p.m. Police could not be immediately reached for additional information.

Reported Thefts, Damages
  • Between Sept. 9 and Feb. 24 the spare tire underneath a 2009 Jeep Commander usually parked in the 16000 block of 76th Avenue was reported stolen. In the act of taking the tire, the car’s pulley and lift cable were damaged, police said.
  • Between 6 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on March 9 a window pane located on the west side of a school in the 17100 block of 84th Avenue was kicked in, police said.
  • Between 10:30 a.m. on March 18 and 3 p.m. on March 19 a sliding glass door window on the east side of a church in the 6200 block of 167th Street was shattered, police said.
  • Between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on March 18 the hub caps from two 2004 silver GMC cars parked in the south 80th Avenue Metra Station lot were stolen, police said. In the same parking lot on the same day, between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., the hub caps from a 2008 Cadillac were also reported stolen.
  • Between noon on March 19 and 7 p.m. on March 20 a silver Nokia cell phone was stolen from a blue 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck parked in the 16300 block of Mark Lane, police said.
