Police Blotter: Ex-Wife Slugs New Girlfriend at Bar; Drunken Driver Offers Hotel Stay in Poland

Brush Fire in Forest Preserve

An 11 a.m. brush fire in the Cook County forest preserve at the intersection of Central Avenue and Flossmoor Road was put out quickly by the Tinley Park Fire Department.

Wednesday, March 16

Employee Takes Out Trash, Merchandise

Anthony O’Connell, 31, of the 17700 block of Ridgeland Avenue, was charged with attempted retail theft. Police said he tried to steal a case of Jagermeister Party Buckets from the liquor store where he works. O’Connell put the case – which contains three part buckets valued at $46.99 each – in a garbage can, hid it under cardboard and tried to take out the garbage can from the liquor store on the 6700 block of North Street at about 6 p.m. March 16, police said.

Woman Charged With Drunken Driving

Raquel Jozsa, 24, of the 16600 block of S. Tower Court, Tinley Park, was charged with drunken driving after police pulled her over for swerving shortly before 1 a.m. March 16 on the 7300 block of 159th Street, police said.

Tuesday, March 15

Laptop, iPod Stolen From Unlocked Truck

A laptop, iPod, $80, 12 CDs, sunglasses and a gym bag were stolen from an unlocked pickup parked in front of a home on the 9400 block of E. Quail Trail between 6 p.m. March 14 and 4 a.m. March 15, police said.

Monday, March 14

Drunken Driver Offers Hotel Stay in Poland

Kamila Geneja, 21, of the 15700 block of Scotsglen Road, Orland Park, was charged with drunken driving and driving without a license — apparently she's never had a license — after police pulled her over at 2 a.m. March 14 near 161st Street for driving south in the northbound lanes of Harlem Avenue, police said. Police said she offered the arresting officer money and free stays at her parents’ hotel in Poland to release her.

'She Doesn't Know What She's Talking About, Officer'

James Schmidt, 47, of the 17700 block of 65th Avenue, was charged with drunken driving after police pulled him over for speeding through a residential neighborhood in the middle of the street near 179th Street and Ridgeland Avenue at about 2 a.m. March 14, police said. When the officer asked Schmidt where he was coming from, he and his passenger answered at the same time, police said. Schmidt said home, the woman said Bailey’s Bar and Grill, police said. Schmidt then told the woman to be quiet and, according to the police report, told the officer "she did not know what she was talking about," police said.

Ex-Wife Slugs New Girlfriend in Bar

Angela Bailey, 48, of the 6600 block of 175th Place, was charged with battery after, police said, she walked up to her ex-husband’s girlfriend and punching her in the face while the girlfriend talked to friends in Bailey’s Bar and Grill at about 6 p.m. March 13. Witnesses said the attack was unprovoked, police said. Bailey was ejected from the bar and arrested at her home later that night, police said.

Woman Charged With Drunken Driving

Amanda Campbell, 24, of the 700 block of Bon Terre Road, New Lenox, was charged with drunken driving after an officer pulled her over near the intersection of 171st Street and Harlem Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. March 13, police said.

Teens Run Off With Beer

Police are looking for two teens who grabbed a case of beer from a gas station on the 8400 block of 159th Street at about 8 p.m. March 13 and ran off with it, police said. The boys are described as white, 17 to 19 years old, about 5 foot 10 to 6 foot 2 tall and having long, shaggy blond hair, police said. They drove off in a green Buick LeSabre, possibly a 2002, police said.
