Police Blotter: Graffiti Attack at Union Square Park; Serial Hit-and-Run Offender Nabbed

SUNDAY, JUNE 19

Blackberry Stolen During Workout

A 50-year-old woman, of the 17700 block of South Sayre Avenue in Tinley Park, reported that her Blackberry cell phone was stolen from Cardinal Fitness, 17200 Oak Park Ave., around 1:30 p.m. She said she left the phone on a window sill while she was working out. She left the gym briefly but went back when she realized she had forgotten it, but when she got there, it was gone. Police are still tracking the phone.

Window Pane Removed at Hampton Inn

An employee at Hampton Inn, 18501 North Creek Dr. in Tinley Park, called police shortly after 3 p.m. to report that there were two juveniles outside by the pool. She then noticed that the top window pane by the outside pool door was missing. Police found the window pane intact.

SATURDAY, JUNE 18

Keys Taken From Gym Locker, Truck Burglarized

A 20-year-old man who was playing basketball from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at LA Fitness, 18400 S. Convention Center Dr., Tinley Park, reported that someone stole his TomTom GPS and wallet, which had in it $230 cash, a PNC debit card and his driver's license. He was alerted to the theft when the keys to his Dodge Ram were missing from his locker. When he asked about them at the front desk, the secretary said that an older man had turned them in.

Telephone Harassment

A 60-year-old man, of the 7900 block of West 160th Street in Tinley Park, called police to say that between 5:40 p.m. and 5:55 p.m., he received six calls from his daughter's ex-boyfriend. During one of the calls, the ex threatened to come over and shoot him, according to the report. No charges were filed.

Lost Wallet While Pumping Gas

A 44-year-old man who was getting gas at 7-Eleven, 166658 S. Oak Park Ave., reported that sometime around 10 p.m. June 17, his wallet may have fallen out of the pocket of his shorts near one of the fuel pumps. A total of $30.63 in fraudulent purchases were made using his credit card, he said.

FRIDAY, JUNE 17

Graffiti Attack at Union Creek Park

Police said they were dispatched to Union Creek Park around 9:15 a.m. for a report about a graffiti incident that occurred around midnight. The parks superintendent said he had video surveillance of the incident, which included two male juveniles who spray painted the concession stand, garbage cans, junction boxes and park signs. They covered the lower half of their faces using their T-shirts, according to the report. Police found the words "SEEK," "LVK," "SCP" and "CAMEL TOE" spray painted on the property, as well as drawings of various circles and stars. The paint was white and grey.

Warrant Arrest

Lamelia Slaughter, 27, of the 22300 block of Clyde Avenue in Sauk Village, was arrested around 3:50 p.m. at the , 7850 183rd St., on a failure-to-appear warrant. Her bail was set at $5,000.

THURSDAY, JUNE 16

Serial Hit-and-Run Offender

Elizabeth A. Orswell, 18, of the 8400 block of Dunmore Drive in Tinley Park, was arrested around 2:10 p.m. in the 7900 block of 159th Street and charged with one count of felony hit-and-run and two misdemeanor counts of hit-and-run, as well as other traffic violations that were not specified in the report. Police said Orswell crashed into three vehicles around 1:30 p.m. and fled after each incident. She told police she panicked because she was on probation for a past accident, according to the report.

Man Videotapes Firearms

Employees at Freddie Bear Sports, 17250 S. Oak Park Ave., Tinley Park, called the cops on Thursday to report that from 3 p.m. to 3:40 p.m. June 3, a middle-aged man entered the business and began recording firearms using his cell phone. He then left in a four-door Pontiac Grand Prix. Police ran the license plate and have tried contacting the man, who had not yet called them back as of Friday, according to the report.

Missing Concrete Compressor

A 51-year-old man, of the 17600 block of Sherwood Drive in Orland Park, reported that a trailer had been burglarized at his Tinley Park business in the 17600 block of South Duvan Drive. He said that between 3 p.m. June 15 and 2 p.m. June 16, someone had stolen his concrete compressor, valued at $2,700.

TUESDAY, JUNE 14

Criminal Damage to Property

Police arrested Sebastian J. Herzog around 11 p.m. at his home in the 16600 block of Turner Avenue in Markham, and charged him with theft, knowingly damaging property and criminal trespassing to a residence for an incident that occurred in Tinley Park. His bail was set at $1,000.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8

Alleged Pot Possession

Damian E. Donaldson, 23, of the 100 block of Washington Street in Park Forest, was arrested around 1:50 a.m. in the 9300 block of 183rd Street, police said. He was charged with driving a vehicle with an obstructed windshield, driving on a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana.
