Police Blotter: Graffiti in Brookside Glen, Vehicle Break-ins

SUNDAY, SEPT. 11

Mailbox Busted

A man living in the 17800 block of South Linden Drive in reported that sometime between 10:30 p.m. Sept. 10 and 7 a.m. Sept. 11, someone dented the side of his mailbox and knocked it off its post.

Driving Under the Influence

Police arrested Ricky F. White, 24, of the 4300 block of West Park Lane in Alsip, around 7:10 p.m. in the 19400 block of Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park. They were alerted to his alleged erratic driving by other motorists, and when they began following him, they saw him swerving in the roadway and straddling the lane line, according to the police report. When police asked White to get out of the car to perform field sobriety tests, he hadn't put his truck in park and it began to roll, the report said. He failed the tests and later said he'd had two beers, police said. He blew a blood-alcohol level of .076, according to the report, and was charged with driving under the influence, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, failure to use a turn signal and improper lane use.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 10

Graffiti in Brookside Glen

While patrolling in the 8300 block of Brookside Glen Drive, police discovered graffiti on the south side of the bridge that's adjacent to the roadway. The officer said he believed the red, white and blue drawing —possibly of the letters "LVN"—was done between 10 a.m. Aug. 31 and 8:45 a.m. Sept. 10. A second set of graffiti on the south side of the wall that extends from the bridge was also found. It was red, white and blue, too, and included multiple symbols including a five-point star, the letters "LVK" and large numbers, possibly spelling 1998, police said.

Criminal Damage

Nicholas A. Pirsein, 19, of the 19400 block of Edgebrook Lane in Tinley Park, was charged with criminal damage to property. A man called police saying he saw two young men throwing rocks at the coin collection shelter in the 157th Street Metra parking lot around 10:15 p.m. Officers saw two broken windows at Magna Electric Supply, 15644 Cicero Ave. The Plexiglass at the Metra lot had been damaged along with some broken light bulbs. Pirsein admitted to causing the damage. The other man was released without charges.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 9

Purse Snatcher Breaks Car Window

Someone broke into a 2004 Buick sport utility vehicle over the weekend that was parked in the 16300 block of Brementowne Road in Tinley Park and stole a woman's purse. Police said the thief shattered the driver's side, back window of the vehicle between noon and 2 p.m. The purse contained the woman's driver's license, checkbook, $100 cash, insurance cards, three credit cards, a Sam's Club membership card and three sets of keys. A Discover card from the handbag was used at Mobil, 16701 Oak Park Ave., police said. The case remained under investigation Monday.

SATURDAY, AUG. 27

Man Accused of Damaging Village Property

Police said Joseph L. Dolce Jr., 18, left the scene of an accident on Zurich Lane in Tinley Park, where he damaged a street pole and a tree. Dolce Jr., of the 17400 block of South 94th Court, was charged with driving too fast for conditions, improper lane use, leaving the scene of an accident and damage to village property, according to the report. "While on Zurich Lane, (Dolce) stated he lost control of the vehicle because he was driving too fast and struck a tree and then a streetlight pole," the report said.

THURSDAY, AUG. 25

Vehicle Break-in

A 50-year-old man, who parked his car in the 17000 block of Ridgeland Avenue in Tinley Park, reported that sometime between 3 p.m. Aug. 24 and 11:30 p.m. Aug. 25, someone entered his black 2005 Ford Ranger via an unlocked door. The man reported that his wallet was stolen from the center console, and he later found the wallet near where his car was parked, he told police. Missing from it was a $20 bill, his driver's license and a bank card, according to the report. The man learned that the bank card was used six times at five locations, including Jewel-Osco, 17117 S. Harlem Ave., Olympia Star, 7100 W. 171st St., and Shell gas station, 17101 S. Harlem Ave. The charges totaled $73.94. An employee at the 7-Eleven on Oak Park Avenue was able to isolate the user of the man's card on a surveillance video, the report said. Other security videos were requested.
