Police Blotter: Man Stabs Friends; Man Has Proper Paperwork to Steal Car

Stabbed friends with box cutter

Michael Shebelski Jr., 22, of the 17000 block of South Haven Avenue, Orland Hills, was arrested at about 1:40 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, and charged with stabbing two other men, police said. While drinking in the garage of a mutual friend's parents' house on the 16500 block of South Parkview Avenue, Tinley Park, Shebelski and the first of the two men began arguing, police said. After they were ejected from the garage, the fight continued in the street where, according to police, Shebelski stabbed the first man two to three times with a box cutter and cut a second man trying to break up the fight.

Window smashed, tools stolen

Someone smashed the windows of a blue Chevy express panel van and stole several power tools at some point between 7 p.m. and midnight on Friday, Oct. 1, police said. The van was parked on the 6300 block of West 183rd Street, police said.

Dealership reports car thefts

On Oct. 1, a car dealership on the 8400 block of 159th Street reported two cars that had been stolen over the last several months, police said.

The first car was a 2007 silver Buick Lucerne valued at $18,000 taken from the back lot at some point between noon Sept. 2 and 5 p.m. Sept. 14, police said. The dealership is still in possession of the keys and police are waiting to hear from OnStar to see about tracking the vehicle's location, police said.

The second car was a 2008 Cadillac Escalade valued at $43,000 driven off the lot shortly after noon on June 18 by a man claiming to be from the auction company that delivered the car by mistake the day before, police said. The man presented all the necessary paperwork to the dealership, police said. The crime went unnoticed until June 21, when the auction company called the dealership to tell them a car hauler would be coming for the Escalade, police said. The investigating officer called OnStar, which said the OnStar unit had been removed or destroyed, meaning they cannot track the car, police said.

Car burgled in front of grade school

Someone smashed the window of a car parked at Walker Intermediate School, 19900 S. 80th Ave., Tinley Park, and stole a purse containing credit cards and a digital camera between 1 and 1:40 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, police said.

Teen assaulted

A 15-year-old boy reported minor injuries after he said he had been jumped by three strangers shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, while walking north on the 16500 block of Ridgeland Avenue, police said.
