Police Blotter: Passenger Skips Out on Cab Fare; Thief Raids Backpack

Passenger Skips Out on Cab Fare

A cab driver around 12:40 a.m. after he said a man ran from his car without paying an $81.25 fare. The driver, from Chicago Carriage and Cab Company, said that he picked up the passenger on the corner of Franklin Avenue and Madison Street in Chicago, according to the report. When he went to drop him off at 181st Street and Live Oak Court in , he said the man handed him a debit card that had an invalid account number. The driver took the man to an ATM to take out money and the machine also didn't recognize the card. "As (the driver) was telling the man that he would need to pay now, the man retrieved his bag and ran away from the store heading north," the report said.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 26

Pot Possession

Robert D. Czajkowski, 30, of the 16600 block of Tudor Lane in Tinley Park, was arrested around 11:12 p.m. near the intersection of 175th Street and Harlem Avenue and charged with driving with a revoked license, possession of marijuana, disobeying a traffic control signal and illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver. Police pulled him over after they saw him run a red light, according to the report, and then saw a 12-ounce can of Busch light beer on the passenger side floorboard of his car. Asked if he had anything illegal, Czajkowski gave police a clear bag of weed that was in his sock, the report said.

Fake Check

Employees at Carmax, 1880 Oak Park Ave., Tinley Park, reported that a $1,500 check used as payment on Sept. 14 was fraudulent. The check was provided as a downpayment for a vehicle that was purchased there. Tinley Park police are investigating.

SUNDAY, OCT. 16

LaGrange DUI

Matthew Kulak, 27, of the 6500 block of 173rd Place in Tinley Park, was charged with driving under the influence, improper lane usage and improper turn. Orland Park police said they stopped Kulak’s car in the 14400 block of LaGrange Road around 4:30 a.m. after it almost collided with a squad car in the intersection. His eyes were described in the report as “watery,” his face as “red,” and police said he failed a Breathalyzer exam.

Thief Raids Backpack

A 16-year-old girl reported that sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., someone went into her purse, which was inside her backpack, and stole two Target gift cards valued at $42 and one Marcus Theaters gift card valued at $25. The backpack was inside an unlocked locker in the band storage area at Tinley Park High School, 9001 171st St., Tinley Park.
