Police Blotter: Prostitution, a Strange Gas Cap Exchange, and More

Tinley Park police reports, Nov. 26 and 30 and Dec. 1-6.

TUESDAY, DEC. 6

Televisions Stolen

An employee at Super Target, 7300 W. 191st St., , reported that two men in their late teens or early 20s came into the store and stole a 37-inch LED TV. Video surveillance shows one of the men pushing a shopping cart with the television in it before the two left in a red automobile. The TV was valued at $499.99, according to the report. 

Prostitution

Jody L. Drzewiecki, 29, of the 17200 block of Ridgeland Avenue in Tinley Park, turned herself in around 6:30 a.m. at the on an active warrant for prostitution out of Blue Island. Her bail was set at $3,000.

MONDAY, DEC. 5

Grand Theft Auto

A resident called police to report that sometime between 9 a.m. Dec. 1 and 8 a.m. Dec. 5, someone stole his 1998 BMW M3 from the 9000 block of Mansfield Drive in Tinley Park. The man said he has the only working set to the car and noted that it had not been repossessed.

SUNDAY, DEC. 4

Extension Cords Found

A woman living in the 7400 block of West 160th Place in Tinley Park called police after she found six green extension cords on the south side of her residence around 11:20 a.m. One of the cords had been cut, she said. 

SATURDAY, DEC. 3

Warrant Arrest

Kimberly E. Whelan, 31, of the 18300 block of Pinewood Lane in Tinley Park, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Ridgeland Avenue and Flossmoor Road on a failure-to-appear warrant for possession of a controlled substance and obstruction. Police encountered Whelan when they got a call about a stranded motorist on Ridgeland near the Interstate 80 overpass, the report said. They found her walking alone on Ridgeland Avenue, near Flossmoor Road. 

FRIDAY, DEC. 2

License Plates Stolen

Police said sometime between Nov. 1 and Dec. 1, someone stole two dealership plates off cars parked at CarMax, 18800 Oak Park Ave., in Tinley Park.

Warrant Arrest

Clifton S. Pappas, 39, of the 6600 block of West 180th Street in Tinley Park, was arrested around 4 p.m. in the 17300 block of Oak Park Avenue on a failure-to-appear warrant for driving under the influence of alcohol. Pappas turned himself in on the warrant, which was out of Livingston County, police said. His bail was set at $5,000.

THURSDAY, DEC. 1

Missing Cell Phone

A 35-year-old man called police after his 11-year-old daughter's cell phone was stolen from an area fitness center. The girl said she believed she knew who stole the phone because she saw four juveniles in the locker room "touching people's belongings," the report said. Complaints had not yet been signed as of Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 30

Driving Under the Influence

Michael T. Casper, 36, of the 8700 block of West 170th Street in Tinley Park, was arrested around 11:40 p.m. near the intersection of 171st Street and Oak Park Avenue, where he was charged with driving under the influence and improper lane use. Police pulled over Casper after they saw him drifting across lane lines, they said. Casper told them he'd dropped his phone and was reaching over to pick it up. After police smelled alcohol on his breath, they asked him to perform field sobriety tests, the report said. He allegedly failed the tests and was taken to the station, where he refused to take the breathalyzer test saying "We both know I wouldn't pass it," the report said. 

Strange Gas Cap Exchange

An elderly woman said she was approached by two men around 5 p.m. outside the Durbin's carry-out area and given a gas cap that didn't belong to her. The 75-year-old woman had just picked up a pizza at the restaurant, 17265 Oak Park Ave., and was helping her husband walk to the car, according to the report. Two men approached her and gave her a gas cap, saying it had fallen from her car when she turned from Oak Park Avenue.

The woman took the cap—though she knew it wasn't hers—and continued walking to the car. The men wished her a Merry Christmas but stood near her car, the report said. They then asked her if she needed help putting the cap back on. She told them no and they eventually left the area. She told police she believed they were trying to break into her car.

SATURDAY, NOV. 26

Air Conditioner Missing

An employee of South Forbes Accounting, 16918 Oak Park Avenue in Tinley Park, called police around 6:40 p.m. to report that an air conditioner had been stolen from outside the business. She said she believed the unit was taken sometime between 4:30 p.m. Nov. 23 and 6:30 p.m. Nov. 26. The owner of the business rents the space from a local management company.
