Police Blotter: Punching Game Becomes Reality; Alleged Booze Theft

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29

Purse Nabbed at Water Park

A 19-year-old woman, who left her purse unattended at White Water Canyon Water Park, 8105 171st St. in Tinley Park, said she noticed her bag missing around 6 p.m. from under her chaise lounge. A security guard found the purse in the women's locker room, police said, but her wallet was not inside. Her driver's license, Illinois identification card, an Express credit card, a Victoria's Secret credit card and her debit card were reported missing. She said she believed the theft occurred between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Stolen Bike

An 18-year-old man called police around noon after he said his blue Schwinn BMX racing bike, valued at around $250, was stolen from the side of a garage in the 17300 block of South Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park. He said he believed it was taken between 10:30 p.m. June 28 and noon June 29.

Punctured Tires

Between 9 p.m. June 28 and 6:15 a.m. June 29, someone punctured the front and back driver's side tires of a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 that was parked in the 7600 block of West 159th Place, police said. The 28-year-old owner said he had no idea why anyone would want to damage his truck.

TUESDAY, JUNE 28

Truck and ATV Disappear

A 60-year-old Ohio man reported that his truck was stolen Tuesday from Wingate Hotel, 18421 North Creek Drive in Tinley Park. It was a 2011 Ford 450 work truck with a railroad-high lift kit, according to the report. In the bed of the truck was a 725 galling tank. It was also connected to a black utility trailer carrying a Kawasaki Mule all-terrain vehicle, according to the report. Police found shattered glass where the truck had been parked. The owner said he believed it was taken between 8 p.m. June 27 and 3 a.m. June 28.

Missing Bike

A 35-year-old woman reported her son's bike missing from a rack in the 17200 block of 71st Court in Tinley Park. It was a blue and grey, 20-inch Schwinn bicycle that cost around $200, according to the report. The woman said she believed the someone snagged the bike between 9 p.m. June 28 and 8 a.m. June 29.

Stolen Wallet

A 20-year-old man, whose car was parked in the 19600 block of South Edgebrook Lane in Tinley Park, said someone entered his unlocked car between 7:15 p.m. June 27 and 5 a.m. June 28 and stole his wallet. The door of the car was ajar at the time, according to the report. His driver's license, vehicle insurance card, two credit cards and a Firearm Owners Identification Card were inside. 

Punching Game Becomes Reality

Between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., a 27-year-old man said he was at JW Hollsteins, 17358 South Oak Park Ave., when he was battered by another man. He said the two were playing a punching video game at the bar when the man jabbed the victim in the eye socket. "(The victim) asked the subject to put some money down and see if he could beat him," the report said. "The subject then struck (him) in the left eye with a closed fist." The victim fell to the ground and the suspect ran out of the bar. The man told police he was bleeding a lot after he was hit, the report said. The batterer wasn't found.

Two Navigation Devices, a Camera and ThinkPad Stolen

A 22-year-old woman's two cars were parked in the 17600 block of South Nanajo Trace in Tinley Park when she said someone broke into both of them and stole her pink leather purse, multicolor cloth purse, a silver Kodak Instant camera, a Garmin GPS, an iPod charger, 2009 Lenovo ThinkPad Computer S-10 with a black leather case and a Magellen GPS. The break-in may have occurred between 10 p.m. June 27 and 7 a.m. June 28, the report said.

Warrant Arrest

Nicholas A. Piersein, 19, of the 19400 block of Edgebrook Lane in Tinley Park, was arrested around 8:10 p.m. in the 15900 block of Ashford Court on a failure-to-appear warrant for retail theft, police said. His bail was set at $50,000.

Damage to School Property

Police said a neighbor called them around 4:50 p.m., while juveniles were vandalizing Kimberly Heights School, 6141 Kimberly Drive in Tinley Park. When they got to the school, police found "a freshly broken window," they said. They spoke to the neighbor, who said the kids were milling around the premises and going into the school's shed. When he heard the glass shatter, he saw them run away.

MONDAY, JUNE 27

Purse Snatchers

An 81-year-old woman, whose car was parked in the lot at Texas Roadhouse, 18345 S. La Grange Road in Tinley Park, reported that around 6:30 p.m., someone stole her purse out of her car's trunk. A friend of the victim's was placing the bag inside the trunk when a woman in the lot complimented a flower she had on her sweater, distracting her. "The witness thanked her and returned to closing the trunk," said the report. "She then noticed that the victim's purse was not where she placed it. She looked around and saw the female suspect, and two male suspects fleeing the parking area on foot."

SUNDAY, JUNE 26

Corvette Damaged

A 51-year-old woman who was at the Holiday Inn, 18501 Convention Center Drive in Tinley Park, said that between 9 p.m. June 25 and 8 a.m. June 26, someone damaged the front, driver's side vent window and ignition of her 1964 Chevrolet Corvette. The vehicle was locked and parked in the lot, she said.

FRIDAY, JUNE 24

Alleged Booze Theft

Police arrested two men on Friday at Jewel-Osco, 17117 S. Harlem Ave., after employees said they saw them leave without paying for alcohol. Jerrell A. Blake, 21, of the 7100 block of Laverne Lane in Tinley Park, was charged with retail theft. Michael T. McCormick, 22, of the 7000 block of West 174th Place in Tinley Park was arrested on a warrant out of McLean County for possession of drug paraphernalia and was also charged with retail theft. Together, the two removed one case of 24-ounce bottles of Miller Lite and a 1.75 liter bottle of Captain Morgan rum, according to the police report. Cops located the vehicle the two had left in, they said, and followed it to a house. There, they found the alcohol and arrested the two.

Stolen Bicycle

A bicycle was reported stolen from an open garage at a home in the 8500 block of West 164th Court in Tinley Park. The homeowner was doing yard work between noon and 4 p.m., which is when he said he believed the theft occurred.

THURSDAY, JUNE 23

Warrant Arrest

Jamil L. Morton, 24, of Oklahoma, was arrested around 12:30 p.m. in the 6000 block of Jody Lane in Tinley Park on a warrant out of Oklahoma City for check fraud, according to the report. Police found Morton soliciting on Jody Lane, they said, and he did not have a village permit to do so.
