Police Blotter: Reportedly Driving While on Drugs, Fountain Trespassers

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8

Scooter Found

Someone left a silver Razor scooter at the front door of the Tinley Park Police Department, 7850 183rd St., around 1:15 p.m., police said.

Missing Jewelry

A 57-year-old woman, of the 19400 block of Mayfield Place in Tinley Park, reported Wednesday that some time between Jan. 22 and May 11, someone stole three pieces of jewelry from an unlocked jewelry armoire in her bedroom. A 14-carat gold, diamond engagement ring valued at $3,910, a 14-carat gold LDS ring valued at $600 and a pair of 14-carat gold cast hoop earrings valued at $325 were all missing. The woman suspected that workers from her cleaning service may be responsible for the theft.

Driving Under the Influence of Drugs

Police pulled over Aly M. Halouf, 25, of the 2800 block of J Court South in Auburn, Wash., around 10:20 p.m. in the 7200 block o 183rd Street after they said they saw him following too closely. "As I approached the vehicle, I could small an odor of burnt cannabis …" the officer said, in the report.

Aly was asked to get out of the car and police said he admitted to last smoking marijuana about three hours earlier. He presented a Washington medical marijuana card registered to someone with a different name, according to the police report. A canine unit helped search the car and found what police said was a bag filled with a "large amount of marijuana" on the floor where Halouf's passenger, Lathan Boozer, had been sitting.

Halouf was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, improper use of a registration sticker, following too closely and possession of more than 30 grams but less than 500 grams of marijuana. Boozer was charged with possession of more than 30 grams but less than 500 grams of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

SUNDAY JUNE 5

Fountain Trespassers

Police were called around 12:50 a.m. to Zabrocki Plaza, located along Oak Park Avenue in downtown Tinley Park, for a report that three women were inside the fountain. The three were asked to stay out of the fountain, according to the report. Less than two hours later, police got a report that a man wearing a black suit and a woman wearing a dress climbed into the fountain. A public works employee was tending to the fountain the next day when he said he noticed it was not properly draining. He said he believed that weight from people inside the fountain had caused it to be uneven.
