Police Blotter: Speeding with Heroin; Dad Punched at Tinley High

Tinley Park police reports, Feb. 9-20.

SUNDAY, FEB. 20 

Speeder Had 35 Bags of Heroin

Melissa N. Zator, 34, of the 7000 block of 177th Place, Tinley Park, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and speeding, police said. Police said they stopped Zator’s car near Harlem Avenue and 177th Place around 11 p.m. Feb. 20 for speeding and swerving. Police found 35 small bags weighing a combined seven grams of heroin in her possession, according to the report.

SATURDAY, FEB. 19

Baseball Bat Battery

Patrick J. Burke, 53, of the 200 block of Bruce Road, Lockport, was charged with aggravated battery, police said. Police said Burke struck a man in the head with a baseball bat outside the man’s home in the 6800 block of 171st Street around midnight Feb. 19. The man suffered a three-inch laceration on his head and possible broken nose, according to the report.

THURSDAY, FEB. 17

Cash Stolen in Salon Theft

Mark D. Pleasant, 44, of the 800 block of Monticello Avenue, Chicago, was charged with theft, police said. Police said Pleasant stole $100 in cash from a salon in the 15900 block of Harlem Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Feb. 17 and fled.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 16

DUI Filed After Snow Assist

Alan C. Fernandez, 22, of the 5200 block of Harcourt Avenue, Oak Forest, was charged with drunken driving, police said. Police said they stopped to help Fernandez push his car out of the snow at 177th Street and Ridgeland Avenue around 11:45 p.m. Feb. 16 and smelled alcohol on his breath.

Undercover Drug Deal 

Nickolas J. Sokolowski, 26, of the 9300 block of Park Place, Orland Hills, was charged with felony delivery of cannabis and felony delivery of a controlled substance, police said. Police said Sokolowski tried to sell an undercover officer more than $600 worth of marijuana and painkillers around 7 p.m. Feb. 16.

TUESDAY, FEB. 15

Schoolyard Battery

Lavoyce A. Bays, 20, of the 3200 block of 160th Street, Markham, was charged with battery and possession of cannabis, police said. In the parking lot of Tinley Park High School, Bays punched the father of a student in the face and fled, police said. Bays was found hiding in the backseat of his girlfriend’s car around 9:15 p.m. with 2 grams of marijuana, according to the report.

The father told police that Bays was carrying a handgun in his waistband and showed it to him before punching him. When police arrested Bays they did not find the weapon, according to the report.

Police could not immediately be reached Monday to confirm if this is the same Lavoyce Bays, 20, of the 3200 block of 160th Street, Markham, .

FRIDAY, FEB. 11

Hit and Run

Ferris L. Bonham, 31, of the 6700 block of 174th Street in Tinley Park, was charged with drunken driving, failure to reduce speed to avoid accident, leaving the scene of an accident, disobeying a stop sign and failure to yield to emergency vehicle after police said he rear-ended a car near 66th Avenue and 174th Street and fled the scene around 9 p.m. Feb. 11. While evading police, he ran a stop sign and then pulled into a parking lot near 66th Court and South Street, where he then tried to flee on foot, according to the report.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 9

Felony Theft

Brian A. Sowinski, 33, of the 4300 block of Bernard Avenue, Chicago, was charged with two counts of felony theft around 11:30 a.m. Feb. 9, police said. Police could not be immediately reached for more details.
