Police Blotter: Unwanted Body Rubbing, Copper Pipe Stolen

SATURDAY, AUG. 13

Unwanted Sexual Contact at Memorial Park

Police were flagged down just after midnight by a woman who said she had just been sexually assaulted at Memorial Park, 6641 171st St. The woman told police that while she was walking home, a white male jumped out and grabbed her, lifting her up and rubbing her on his body three times.

The woman said she yelled that her husband was coming and the offender released her and ran east. Police searched the area for a suspect matching the description given by the victim but could not locate him.

Officers then spoke with staff members at Durbin's, 17265 Oak Park Ave., and Teehan's Irish Tavern, 17329 Oak Park Ave., but they could not recall seeing anyone matching the description in their establishment that night.

Underage Drinker Chased Down

Kyle D. Vigil, 18, of the 17300 block of S. Harlem Ave., was charged with underage possession of alcohol and underage consumption of alcohol. An officer on patrol saw Vigil walking along 173rd Place with a glass bottle containing a clear liquid in it around 11:23 p.m. The officer identified the bottle as liquor and attempted to question Vigil, but the young man fled, according to the police report. The officer apprehended Vigil at 173rd Street, near Durbin's.

Wallet Snatched while Grocery Shopping

A woman told police that her wallet containing credit cards was stolen while she was grocery shopping in the late afternoon, and a stolen credit card was used for a $500 cash advance and a gas purchase.

The woman said that after making purchases at Aldi, 16150 S. Harlem Ave., she and her husband went to Walt's Food Center, 16039 S. Harlem Ave. While attempting to pay at Walt's, the victim noticed her wallet was missing and called her credit card companies to cancel the cards. One company informed her that there already was a cash advance for $500 from PNC Bank, 7151 W.159th St., and a gas purchase on the card for an unknown amount.

An officer went to the bank and Aldi, and spoke with employees at both locations. According to the report, a bank employee said there was no record of a cash advance from an ATM at the bank and no tellers recalled issuing one.

An Aldi manager said there was surveillance video in the store, but there was nothing showing the victim's wallet falling out of her purse or being stolen in the store.

Minivan Break-in at White Water Canyon Water Park

An Oak Forest woman notified police that sometime between 4:45 p.m. and 6:35 p.m., someone broke into her minivan and stole her purse while the minivan was in the parking lot at White Water Canyon Water Park, 8105 171st St. The purse contained credit cards, a wallet, cash, a checkbook and the victim's diver's license, the report said. The driver's side window of the minivan had been smashed, police said.

SATURDAY, AUG. 6

Copper Pipe Stolen from Business

Someone broke through a rear window and stole copper pipe and a CD player from S. Forbes Accounting and Business Services, 16918 Oak Park Ave., sometime between 5 p.m. Aug. 5 and 8 a.m. Aug. 6.

Upon arriving on the scene, police spoke with two people who reported the crime and told officers that there was a strong smell of natural gas coming from the building. Police called the fire department, and firefighters turned off the gas supply, allowing police to search the building. Firefighters also did a walk-through of the building and told police that copper pipe was missing throughout the building.

The building's owner told police there was approximately 3.5 feet of copper pipe removed from the office space in the building, along with an unknown amount removed from the crawlspace below the building. A CD player, with an approximate value of $30, was reported missing as well.
