Police Blotter: Woman Avoids Scam, Plumber Threatened with Gun

SUNDAY, APRIL 17

Youth Hypes Dad's Alleged Connections

Martin F. Rodriquez, 19, of the 20100 block of Catalpa Avenue in Lynwood, was charged with illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor. Police said they received complaints of a man knocking on houses on the 8700 block of Black Oak Avenue around 1 a.m. and found Rodriquez stumbling about. On the ride to the station Rodriquez told officers his father is the mayor of Mokena and that they were all going to lose their jobs, police said.

Domestic Battery

Brian R. Muselman, 36, of the 17800 block of Sayre Avenue in Tinley Park, was charged with domestic battery after choking a woman in his home and throwing her to the ground around 6:30 p.m., police said.

FRIDAY, APRIL 15

Hockey Fan

Nicholas R. Fry, 31, of the 10900 block of Front Street in Mokena, was charged with retail theft. Fry left a store in the 7300 block of 191st Street without paying for a stereo system and 25 packs of hockey cards around 1:30 p.m., police said.

Fun World

Brian M. Fox, 49, of the 7800 block of Willowood Court in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and improper lane usage. Police said they stopped Fox’s car at Oak Park Avenue and 163rd Street around 3 a.m. for drifting between lanes. He told police he was coming from Odyssey Fun World, where he had been “shooting a couple golf balls,” according to the report.

FRIDAY, APRIL 8

Domestic Battery

Kimberly E. Whelan, 31, of the 18300 block of Pinewood Lane in Tinley Park, was charged with domestic battery and two counts of resisting arrest around 10 p.m. Police could not be immediately reached for more details.

Weaving Slowly

Cesar Limas, 41, of the 5200 block of Keating Avenue in Chicago, was charged with DUI, no valid driver’s license and improper lane usage. Police said they stopped Limas’ car in the 16200 block of Harlem Avenue around 9:30 p.m. for striking the center median twice. Limas was seen “weaving” at a “slow rate of speed,” according to the report.

Reported Incidents, Thefts

  • A 97-year-old woman from the 7100 block of 177th Place called police on April 13 and said a suspicious man knocked on her back door, asking to inspect her water. When asked for identification, the man got back in a black SUV and fled west on 177th Place, the woman said. The man was described as Hispanic, 5-foot-10, approximately 185 pounds and in his mid 40s. He was seen around 6 p.m. wearing a hard hat, yellow construction vest, blue jeans and brown work boots.
  • A plumber told police he was threatened while working at a home in the 8100 block of 169th Street on the afternoon of April 12. Police said the homeowner, a 75-year-old man, was upset about the cost of his repairs and told the plumber as he left he would shoot up the plumber’s house if there were any more problems. The plumber told police he had seen the old man holding a revolver earlier in the day. No charges were filed.
  • A 70-year-old man from the 6800 block of Sussex Road told police someone used his name to enter into a two-year contract with Sprint. He said he received a confirmation letter from the phone company on April 9. Police are investigating a possible identity theft.
  • A 48-year old woman from the 9400 block of Dundee Place told police someone used her debit card information to make two large purchases at a Walmart in New Jersey on April 13. The bank is conducting an investigation of its own before reimbursing the funds.
  • A 53-year-old man from the 17600 block of Oakwood Drive in Tinley Park told police someone used his debit card in Alabama for a total of $2,500 on April 16. The bank credited his account, police said.
  • Police are investigating a 44-year-old Manteno man who tried to cash a bad check worth $1,500 on April 16 at a bank in the 16300 block of Harlem Avenue. No charges have been filed, but bank representatives told police this isn’t the first time the man has done this.
  • Police are investigating a 30-year-old Dolton man who left a harassing voice message on a Tinley Park woman’s phone on April 15. In the message the man admits to breaking the woman’s windshield, police said.
  • A backpack containing an IBM laptop was stolen from the DeVry University career services conference center on April 14 between 5:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m., police said.
  • A Pioneer CD player and stereo with a built-in GPS unit was stolen from a green Nissan Pathfinder parked in the 6600 block of 183rd Street sometime between 6 p.m. on April 13 and 5:45 p.m. on April 14, police said.
