Police: Chicago Woman Entered Tinley Store with Underwear on the Brain

An out-of-towner was arrested last week and charged with retail theft after cops said she tried to snatch men's unmentionables from Super Target.

A 46-year-old woman was arrested last week after Super Target store managers said they busted her stealing nearly $500 worth of men's underwear, cologne and shoes.

Marissa Y. Jack, of the 1700 block of West 81st Street in Chicago, was arrested around 4 p.m. May 26 at Super Target, 7300 W. 191st St., in Tinley Park, according to a police report.

It was shortly before that time that the store's loss prevention officers said they saw Jack filling up two large plastic tote bags with a "large amount of men's underwear."

"With the totes full of underwear in a Super Target shopping cart, Marissa pushed the cart toward the Starbuck's Coffee shop inside (the store)," the report said.

She then wheeled the stash out the door without paying for the items. A loss prevention officer approached Jack and introduced himself.

"Marissa stated to (the officer), 'I knew it, I knew it. I knew you guys were watching me,'" the report said. "(He) advised Marissa to go back into the store's security office and (she) stated, 'As long as I don't go to jail. I can't get locked up.'"

She was arrested and charged with felony retail theft.

Police inventoried the items in her totes and found 44 packages of Hanes men's underwear, two pairs of shoes and a bottle of Faberge cologne. The totes were also stolen, police said. The total cost of the items before tax was listed as $494.45.

Jack admitted to stealing and said she went to the store with the intent of taking the underwear, according to the report.

"She was then going to sell the underwear to her 'fence' from Chicago …" it said. "For every $2 worth of store items, (he) would give her $1.25."

Police said Jack apologized for ripping off Target.
