Police: Feud Between Peers Leads to Vandalism; Couple Stuffs Copper Wire in Purse, Jacket

Also in the latest batch of Tinley Park police reports, a man is accused of drunken driving after leaving a family party, a perfume thief targets Ulta and a man is reportedly caught with syringes. These incidents occurred March 8-11.

SUNDAY, MARCH 11

Feud Among Peers Leads to Vandalism

A woman living in the 7600 block of Rosefield Terrace in called police after finding that someone had punctured the tires on three of her vehicles and spray-painted her garage door, house and front door. The woman said her daughter has been fighting with another woman who she believes is the culprit.

That woman, a 24-year-old, threatened to go to the home earlier that day to "do damage," according to the report. Several derogatory phrases, like "dumb b---- scary ho" and "---- yo mama" were graffitied, the report said. No charges had yet been filed as of Monday. Police were still trying to reach the suspect.

SATURDAY, MARCH 10

Man Accused of Drunken Driving After Family Party

Police arrested Hasan Veljacic, 51, of the 4600 block of Minnesota Avenue in Blue Island around 12:15 a.m. near the intersection of 159th Street and Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park after they allegedly stopped him for driving erratically. Veljacic told police he'd been drinking after they noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and watery and smelled alcohol on his breath, the report said.

He told officers he was coming from a family party in Chicago and thought he was still in the city when he was pulled over, the report said. He reportedly failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. Police said he blew a .156 on the Breathalyzer. 

Illegal Transportation of Alcohol

Michael E. Campbell, 41, of the 6700 block of South Rockwell Avenue in Chicago, was arrested around 6 p.m. near the intersection of 64th Court and 164th Place. He was charged with driving with a revoked license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and illegal transportation of alcohol. said Campbell had a bottle of Hennessy Cognac between the front driver's seat and the passenger's seat. It was three-quarters of the way empty, according to the report, but Campbell was not intoxicated. 

Vandal Scratches Car, Punctures Tires

Sometime between 5 p.m. March 9 and 7:30 a.m. March 10, someone scratched the side of a 2007 Chevrolet Uplander that was parked in the driveway of a residence in the 7400 block of Ridgefield Lane in Tinley Park. Also, the rear passenger and spare tire on an adjacent 2006 Jeep Liberty were deflated, according to the report. 

FRIDAY, MARCH 9

Perfume Thief

Police were called to Ulta Cosmetics, 7350 191st St., Tinley Park, for a report of a theft. Surveillance video showed a woman, possibly in her late teens or early 20s, entering the store around 10 a.m. The person is shown taking a Coach body lotion bottle and Coach perfume bottle off the shelf and walks toward the back of the store, police said. "Trying to hide between aisles, the female can be seen putting the said items into her purse," the report said. She then left the store. 

Possession of Syringes

Nicholas A. Panoski, 35, of the 7200 block of West Wellington Avenue in Elmwood Park, was arrested at Jewel-Osco, 17117 S. Harlem Ave., in . Police said they were called to the store regarding a possible retail theft committed by Panoski.

While searching him, they found two needles in his front pocket, according to the report. "Panoski admitted to security that he uses the needles for heroin," the report said. He also was found to have two outstanding warrants, one for larceny out of Wilmette and a second for retail theft out of Naperville. 

THURSDAY, MARCH 8

Couple Stuffs Copper Wire in Purse, Jacket

arrested a couple who reportedly tried stealing several rolls of copper wire from a local hardware store.

Officers were called around 5:30 p.m. to Menards, 6851 W. 159th St., where Tinley residents Adam E. Sonne, 23, and Jacqueline R. Lambert, 21, both of the 7900 block of West 172nd Street, were being held. 

Loss prevention staff members said they saw Sonne put two rolls of copper wire in Lambert's purse, the report said. They then saw Sonne shove two more rolls under his jacket before the pair walked out of the store without paying, according to police. A security guard stopped the two.

They were charged with one count each of retail theft. The total value of the wire in Lambert's purse was $111 and the wire under Sonne's coat was priced at $120, the report said.
