, said Tinley Park Police Chief Steve Neubauer.

Police responded at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, to an ambulance call to the home, a police press release stated. A public works employee had spotted Nermeen Sam's body next to a tree outside and called 911, Neubauer said.

Bahaa Sam was immediately taken into custody, the release stated. He was charged Wednesday night and booked in to Will County Jail, Neubauer said. A bond hearing for Bahaa Sam is at 1:30 p.m. in Joliet.

The couple's four children were placed in the custody of relatives, he said.

Police had responded to multiple domestic violence calls involving the Sams, and Bahaa Sam had been charged, Neubauer said. In a phone interview Thursday, the chief said he did not immediately have the information concerning how many times police responded, when the most recent call was or when Bahaa Sam had been charged.

According to the Will County Circuit Court website, Bahaa Sam was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery, which was reduced to battery, in June of this year. An emergency protective order against him also was filed that same month by Nermeen Sam and the couple's four children, records indicate. That order was dropped in July, according to court records.

Bahaa Sam also was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery and resisting a police officer in October 2005, according to Will County Circuit Court records. He was found not guilty on the domestic battery charge and guilty on the charge of resisting an officer, court records state.

I know that I was just making a point (in reference to someone blaming politics) that in areas where Sharia is practiced, stuff like this is common. At least from my experience in those countries at least.
BGresident December 20, 2012 at 09:46 PM
I'm not sure why people are blaming other countries for this horrible event. We have plenty of homegrown violence against women and children right here. I feel horrible for this woman and her kids.
Dave December 20, 2012 at 10:04 PM
All the people on here that keep telling others what is appropriate to post and where, go blow. What you feel is appropriate may not be what I feel is appropriate. Oh, and you don't own the internet. So there.
Stephen C. Lingle December 20, 2012 at 10:08 PM
I hate to say this but it proves the police can not protect you! This is not a slame on the police but unless you are important they are not able to protec`t you 24X7. We need to heal society and I'm not sure that can be done.
john bruno December 20, 2012 at 10:21 PM
Wait until this guy gets convicted and goes to prison. Sharia law won't help him with the inmates who hate wife-beaters/killers; and, child molesters/killers. Prayers what is left of this "family", especially for the children and the relatives who will have such a difficult time to reconcile what has happened to this mom and dad...for the children.
BGresident December 20, 2012 at 10:33 PM
These people are Christian. Therefore sharia law is irrelevant.

It's disgusting to hear some people like john Bruno expressing his ignorance and hatred , the killer is Christian not a Muslem , yet this ignorant Bruno tried to invest this horrible crime to serve his odious convictions and retarded mentality, my prayers and my hearts goes out to the mother of nermeen and to her children, criminals are criminals apart of their color race or religion.

Abuse should be a punishable crime regardless of a victim pressing charges. I'm sure there are legalities that I don't understand. But...if a guy is beating his wife and she is afraid of him, it shouldn't be on her shoulders to decide on him being arrested. May God be with these orphaned kids to give them strength and peace.

I've known her 9 years ago from church, she was the sweetest person on earth and a hard working mom,so she can put food on the table for her 4 children and she was hoping that her husband might get any better one day but it didn't get any better, the perfect example of a typical Egyptian woman that didn't deserve this sicopath ,and for those blame what happened,on the Egyptian roots for the guy,i would really love to tell them that violence and crazy people exist everywhere, how about what happened to those little angels of sandy hook school by that sick kid and by the way, he was born and raised in America.

What the fish, she bit the hand that was trying to feed her... she had the job she fed the family and he killed the one person he said he loved and the one person who was wonderful. Bit the hand is very wrong and even if that were true, its no reason to kill anyone... and the people who bring politics in this tragedy, are screwed up in the head.... we need to care more about the woman and her 4 children not the mayor or the president....
BSG mom December 21, 2012 at 11:15 AM
To the Sam children -I am so sorry for your loss. Words cannot describe the pain you must be feeling. Your mom sounds like a wonderful person. I am sad for never having the pleasure of meeting her. God Bless .

What church is she associated with???
Connie December 21, 2012 at 02:14 PM
Rich, you should be ashamed of yourself, to blame our mayor or anyone else for this other that the horrible person that did this is reprehensible. This is not about politics. Do you think this family blames politics! This was a horrible tragedy. Think of these poor children and what they now have to endure. Life without the one person who did everything for them. If this happened to anyone you knew would you blame the mayor. Shame on you. The only person to blame is the pathetic person that did this. These poor children have to go thru burying their mother and dealing with their father being in prison for the rest of their lives. How about have some compassion for them and how hard things are going to be for them instead of placing blame on someone that has nothing to do with this. I don't think any of us would ever want to go thru this or know anyone that would have to go thru this. This was a horrible horrible act. This poor woman obviously has been thru hell for years. Thankfully she is at peace, but at the expense of her children. They now have to grow up without their mother and you think that is the mayors fault, shame on you. Did the mayor tell him to take a crow bar and beat her. I think you need to do some soul searching and find peace within yourself. This was her husbands fault and no one elses. Take some time to think of that family this Christmas and be grateful for the one you have. Merry Christmas!!!!!
Sadfortheworld December 21, 2012 at 02:20 PM
I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting her and she was an amazing woman, mother, and wife. What this article does not know is that the reason the charges were reduced in July is because the church told her that it is not right to put an order of protection against her husband and keep him from the children. And he told her that he would never do anything like this again. She didn't stand a chance and it is definitely not tinkers fault. :(

Is there a fund set up for cotributions for the grandmother and children???
Sean Gillis December 21, 2012 at 02:26 PM
I worked with her 3 days out off the week. For 2 years it will never be the same for me and my work. I gave her a christmas gift on Wed morning and wished her merry christmas and told her she ment the world to me when I was at work. She always loved working with me and it kills me that I didn't see her last night. She is and allways be the hardest working mother that I ever meet. I love you Nermeen always. God I miss you sooooo much hunny. I always love you and miss you. You did so much for me. I love ya. :'(

@Timothy Meade, @nicole, @Sadfortheworld and Sean Gillis: Thank you for providing such touching tributes. You have my condolences. I've added an In Memory page for Nereem Gamal Sam where you can share these thoughts, as well as photos and videos. This way, it's away from the facts of the case. Again, thank you for your words. It's stories like these that make me sick...Again, kids have to pay the price, if not their own life, its losing the one woman that was going to insure they have a great life. Makes me sad. And just a question...which book did you read that stated this is shariia law??? And how does this apply to a Christian? Was your source a reliable one? As in have you asked anyone who's studied shariia law, or was the source just someone who's read a random book which probably not written by a true shariia follower?? I'm interested. Either way, my thoughts and prayers are with these children and all children who are victimized each day around the world--not just in TP.
