Police Say Out-of-Towner Was Dealin' Drugs at Amphitheatre

Police recently arrested a man who they said was dealing drugs at a concert held at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in .

Two officers were standing on the concert grounds around 9:40 p.m. June 2 when they reportedly saw Derek J. Jackson, 22, of the 1000 block of 16th Avenue in Rock Island, take a cash payment in exchange for a plastic bag. Police said they suspected it to be a drug transaction and approached Jackson to investigate.

They tried to also find the man who bought the suspected drugs but lost him in the crowd, they said.

"As (an officer) escorted Jackson to a less crowded area in order to speak with him … I observed Jackson pull a plastic bag out of his pocket and drop it on the ground," the report said. "I picked up the bag and it contained a green leafy substance."

Jackson was handcuffed and searched. Police said they also found him with a "plastic bag with a white powdery substance" inside and $720 cash.

Back at the , officers weighed the powder out at 1.9 grams, they said, but were "unable to determine a presumptive presence of any narcotic." It was sent to the Illinois State Crime Lab for investigation and a charge regarding it may be pending.

The marijuana weighed out to about 6.8 grams, police said.

He was charged with possession of marijuana.
