Police: Thieves Steal 26 Guns, Lead Cops on Chase

Three men broke into an Oak Park Avenue sporting goods store and stole guns, police said.

After three men allegedly smashed a window to break into downtown Tinley Park's Freddie Bear Sports early Wednesday morning and made off with 26 guns, police said they led officers on a chase that ended up on foot in Markham.

Sammie Garrett, 43, of the 153oo block of Kilpatrick, Oak Forest, was charged with possession of a weapon by a felon, burglary, aggravated fleeing from police and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Jheramie Mack, 25, of the first block of Forest Boulevard, Park Forest, and Lawless Hawk, 22, of the 500 block of Circle Drive, University Park were both charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, burglary and criminal trespass to a vehicle.

Responding to reports of the burglary at 1 a.m. Wednesday, police said they found the three men leaving the area. After a brief car chase, the men fled the vehicle and tried to get away on foot around the intersection of Kedzie and 167th Street, Police Cmdr. Steve Vaccaro said.

All 26 guns were recovered.
