Police: Woman Crashes in Mokena, Gets DUI in Tinley

Tinley Park cops stopped a woman earlier this month when they heard loud grinding noises coming from her car as she drove down the roadway, they said.

When police pulled over a driver earlier this month for cruising down 80th Avenue at a "slower than average speed," they realized she'd recently been in what looked like a serious accident. But when they asked her what happened, her answer didn't add up, they said.

Behind the wheel shortly before midnight Dec. 8 was Tana L. Radowski, 45, of the 8400 block of Orchard Court in . told her that her car was making "loud grinding noises" as she made her way down the roadway, according to the report.

She initially said she hit a curb near the Metra train station in Mokena. She didn't get out to see the damage, the report said, because she thought that if she drove slowly enough, she could make it home.

Police began investigating to determine what Radowski had hit with her 2010 Nissan because they said the damage was not consistent with smashing into a curb. In doing so, they got whiffs of alcohol from Radowski's breath, the report said. She then divulged that she'd had two glasses of wine at a Christmas party earlier, officers noted.

They asked her to perform field sobriety tests, which she reportedly failed. Local law enforcement officers worked with those in Mokena to determine that Radowski likely hit an Illinois Department of Transportation sign at 191st Street and Hickory Street.

Pieces of a vehicle were scattered around the damaged sign, officers said, and those pieces—a fender, inner fender, parts of a headlamp—matched Radowski's car.

She allegedly blew a .140 on the Breathalyzer and was charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08 and driving an unsafe vehicle. Her bail was set at $1,000.
