Public Urination Bust Leads Cop to Stolen Motorcycle

An officer trying to cite a man for urinating on the side of a Tinley Park store ends up recovering a stolen motorcycle as the accused resists arrest, police said.

A Hazel Crest man was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest after a police officer tried to cite him for urinating on the side of a building in the Brookside Marketplace shopping center, police said.

At about 2:50 p.m. March 21, an officer driving through the popular shopping center noticed Charlie Sanders, 39, of the 1700 block of West Linder Avenue in Hazel Crest, leave the Smokes Club tobacco store, walk around the side of the building and start urinating on the wall, police said.

When the officer pulled his squad car around, Sanders tried to walk away, then run toward a Suzuki motorcycle once the officer got out of the vehicle, police said.

The officer was able to pull the keys out of the motorcycle before Sanders could drive off, police said. Sanders was able to pull himself away as the officer tried to cuff him. He ran toward Harlem Avenue, where he was later arrested in a field by officers called for backup.

The motorcycle Sanders tried to flee on had been reported stolen out of Chicago in 2009, police said.
