Responders Revive Overdosed Woman, Accuse Friend of Shooting Her Up With Smack

Police arrested a man who said he shot his female friend up with a bag of heroin he cooked on the stove. Though she'd been snorting it during the night, it was her first time injecting the drug, the man told police.

Paramedics were able to revive a woman who overdosed on heroin in a apartment last weekend, and ended up accusing the man she was with of drug possession.

The man called 911 around 5:50 a.m. after his friend reportedly "shot up heroin for the first time" and fell unconscious. When responders arrived, the woman was lying face up on the bathroom floor with one man performing CPR on her and another running the shower head over her body, according to the report.

A officer said he moved and dried the victim, and used CPR and an automated defibrillator to revive her. Paramedics soon stepped in and the victim regained consciousness.

She walked to the living room where she reportedly tried to conceal a burnt glass pipe and a bent spoon that were on the coffee table. There were also five Ziplock baggies with white powder residue in them, a used syringe and a small bag of marijuana, police said.

The report noted that the woman was taken to Palos Community Hospital where she was treated for a drug overdose.

The man, Thomas M. Rohan, 32, who lives at the apartment in the 16600 block of Jean Lane, was arrested. He told police all the drug equipment was his, the report said.

Rohan said he and the woman began doing drugs and drinking alcohol around 11 p.m. Feb. 18. By about 4 a.m., the two had smoked "four bags of crack cocaine" and snorted about a bag of heroin, he told the cops.

Rohan said that he cooked a bag of heroin using the spoon that was later found on his coffee table, according to the report, and injected it into himself. Around 5:45 a.m., he injected the woman with a second bag he'd cooked up, the report said. Five minutes later, the woman became unconscious.

He told police he knew the drugs were in the house but worried for his friend's well being and knew he had to call paramedics.

Rohan was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of hypodermic needles and possession of marijuana. His bail was set at $1,500 and he's next due in court March 14.
