Ryan Expressway Remains Closed After Semi Crashes Into School Bus

Southbound lanes on Ryan expressway remain closed during Tuesday afternoon rush hour after a semi collided with a school bus, the Chicago Tribune reports.

A garbage truck that lost its load caused a crash between a semi-truck and school bus carrying special needs adults on the Dan Ryan Expressway Tuesday afternoon. There were no serious injuries, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The southbound lanes on the Ryan remained closed during the afternoon rush hour.

According to the Tribune, the garbage truck lost its container around 3:30 p.m. at 95th Street and the Ryan, causing debris to fall on the road that touched off the crash.

The semi and bus came to rest against the 95th Street bridge, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford told the paper.

The bus was reportedly carrying 38 special needs adults and was headed to Robbins. None of the adults was seriously injured. The driver of the semi was pinned inside, the Tribune said.

Langford said that eight ambulances were sent to the scene.

The southbound lanes of the Ryan remained closed as of 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Traffic is being re-routed off at 87th Street and 95th Street, Illinois State Police said.
