'Safe Ride Home' Offered for New Year's Celebrants

In an effort to curb drunken driving, Tinley Park is partnering with surrounding communities in the annual SafeRide Home program.

Tinley Park is joining with neighboring communities in supporting the annual SafeRide Home program, which offers New Year's Eve celebrants a free limo ridehome in an effort to prevent drinking and driving.

Between 11 p.m. on Monday, December 31, and 4 a.m. on Tuesday, January 1,  residents of Tinley Park, Mokena, New Lenox, Orland Park and Palos Heights who feel they cannotsafely drive home from a party or public establishment can call 1-855-230-1637 for a free and safe limo ride home.

Rides will only be given to the person's home, not another party or establishment. Pickup and dropoff locations must be in one of the participating towns. There is no charge for the service and no names are taken.

Traffic safety campaign underway

In an additional effort to promote safety, Tinley Park police are participating in an enforcement campaign focusing on seat belt and DUI violations.

Police will conduct saturation patrols in various locations throughout the Village through January 1. The goal of the patrols is to promote safe driving and reduce the number of personal injury automobile accidents within the Village.
