Saturday Blotter: Online Debit Card Fraud; Gas Meter Fire

Credit card fraud
Someone used a Tinley Park woman's Visa debit dard information to make 31 Internet purchases totaling $1,800, Tinley Park Police said. The woman, whom Visa notified of several "suspicious purchases" between Aug. 27 and 30, said she was unsure how the thieves obtained her card information as she rarely uses her card online, police said.

Michael T. Casper, 35, of the 8700 block of West 170th Street, Orland Park, was arrested at 10:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at the intersection of 171st Street and 80th Avenue and charged with speeding, improper lane usage and drunken driving, Tinley Park Police said. Officers had observed him heading north, traveling 65 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Justin C. Vanderbilt, 21, of the 6100 block of Elm Lane, Matteson, was arrested shortly after 12 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, on the 7300 block of 191st Street and charged with drunken driving, improper lane usage, running a red light and illegal transportation of alcohol, Tinley Park Police said.
Gas meter fire
After a neighbor reported a loud explosion and fire shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at a home on the 9300 block of Chestnut Trail, a Tinley Park Police officer discovered a gas meter on the side of the garage was on fire, police said. Nicor shut off the gas and it took the Tinley Park Fire Department six hours to put out the fire, police said.
