Car Hits Semi, Spills 100 Gallons of Diesel on 167th Street

Traffic was shut down both directions as crews worked to clean up diesel fuel spilled in the collision near 167th and Oak Park Avenue in Tinley Park.

Cleanup continues after a car crashed into a semi on 167th Street, just east of Oak Park Avenue at Normandy Avenue.

A semi truck headed eastbound on 167th Street was attempting to make a U-turn, when struck by a car around 7 a.m. Wednesday. The car hit the truck's diesel tanks, spilling 100 gallons of fuel onto the road, according to Tinley Park Fire Chief Ken Dunn.

Traffic was diverted while crews worked to clean up the fuel, continuing until four hours later. Westbound traffic was reopened as of 11:30 a.m. Eastbound was still shutdown.

The driver of the car was transported to an area hospital. The extent of injuries is unknown. The driver of the semi refused treatment.
