South Suburban DUI Arrests, Oct. 20

FRANKFORT

Oct. 7: John E. Dunham, 79, of the 21900 block of Heritage Drive, Frankfort, was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a crash and failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash, according to a Frankfort police report. He was arrested at about 5:05 p.m. near the intersection of LaGrange and Laraway. Dunham was released on bond and is due on Nov. 5 in Will County court.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS

Oct. 6: A 32-year-old man who told police he smelled like alcohol because he came from the club is accused of driving under the influence.

Willie E. Young, 32, of the 4200 block of Greenbrier, Richton Park, was charged with driving under the influence, driving without insurance, driving without valid registration, improper lane use and speeding, according to a Chicago Heights police report.

Police said Young was driving a car that straddled the road lines at about 3:46 a.m. on Chicago Road near 14th Street, the report states. Police also observed the vehicle traveling 45 mph in a 35 mph zone. Cops pulled the car over and noted that the driver had bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Young told officers that he doesn’t drink and that he smelled like alcohol because he was at “the club,” the report states. He was asked to take tests for sobriety but refused to take a Breathalyzer test. Police took him into custody and booked him on charges. Young is due on Dec. 13 in Markham court.

Oct. 3: A Matteson man who was driving around Chicago Heights with a half-empty bottle of tequila is accused of drunken driving, according to a report.

Ceandre D. Moore, 23, of the 900 block of Purdue, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08, driving without a front license plate, driving without insurance, illegally transporting alcohol and improper lane use, according to Chicago Heights police. Moore was arrested after failing sobriety tests during a traffic stop, the report states.

Police spotted a car swerving in and out of the southbound lane of Chicago Road near Hickory Street at about 3:44 a.m., the report states. An officer who pulled the car over spoke with the driver, who reportedly had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Moore told police he had a couple of drinks that night, the report states. An officer asked Moore to take tests for sobriety and, after failing those tests, placed him under arrest, the report states. During a search of Moore’s car, cops found an open and half-empty bottle of Patron Silver.

Moore is due on Oct. 24 in Markham court.

PALOS HEIGHTS

Oct. 13: A driver from Hazel Crest faces charges after her driving caught the attention of Palos Heights cops.

Sharon Jenkins, 24, of the 2300 block of West 170th Street, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08, speeding and improper lane use, according to a Palos Heights report. Jenkins as stopped at about 1:27 a.m., the report states. She was driving faster than the posted speed limit and used her lane improperly.

Police said Jenkins showed signs that she had been drinking. During the stop, Jenkins performed tests for sobriety and failed, the report states. She was arrested and booked at the Palos Heights Police Department. Bail was set at $1,000. Jenkins is due on Nov. 5 in Bridgeview court.

NEW LENOX

Oct. 13: Kelly Ryan, 39, of the 8200 block of Pecan, Frankfort, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, disobeying a traffic control device and speeding, according to a New Lenox police report. Ryan was arrested at about 2:19 a.m. near the intersection of Route 30 and Bluestone Bay. A cop reported seeing her vehicle disobey a traffic control device and clocked her driving faster than the posted speed limit. During the traffic stop, police found that Ryan was under the influence of alcohol. She posted bond and was released.

ORLAND PARK

Oct. 4: A Tinley Park man accused of drunken driving told police he was searching for a way into a McDonald’s parking lot that was under construction.

Roger L. Zetterberg, 23, of the 7700 block of 165th Place, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without insurance and speeding, according to an Orland Park police report. Police said Zetterberg was driving a vehicle an officer spotted speeding on 159th Street and, later, lost his balance during tests for sobriety.

An Orland Park cop on patrol at about 1:08 a.m. clocked a Ford traveling 60 mph in a 40 mph zone near the intersection of 159th Street and 88th Avenue, the report states. Police followed the vehicle into Parkhill Plaza and performed a traffic stop. Zetterberg handed police his driver’s license but told the officer he didn’t have insurance, the report states. Police said his eyes appeared to be bloodshot and that there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle.

The driver told police he was trying to find a way into the fast food restaurant’s parking lot, which was completely demolished. Police asked Zetterberg to take tests for sobriety, during which he lost his balance and turned incorrectly, the report states. He then refused to take a breath test and was arrested.

HOMEWOOD

Oct. 11: A Crete man who police said slurred his speech during a traffic stop is accused of drunken driving.

Nicholas DalSanto, 27, of the 26100 block of South Cambridge, was charged with driving under the influence, improper lane use and speeding, according to a Homewood police report. DalSanto was spotted speeding while driving at about 1:01 a.m. southbound in the 18400 block of Harwood, the report states. At about the same time, he was seen crossing the double yellow line without signaling.

Cops asked for DalSanto’s driver’s license and insurance, at which time they noticed that he slurred his speech and had an alcoholic odor on his breath, the report states. DalSanto claimed he drank two beers that night. Police said he failed tests for sobriety. DalSanto is due on Dec. 2 in Markham court.
