District 228 Girls Basketball Coach Arrested for DUI in Frankfort

John Maniatis, 46, of the 400 block of Pleasant Hill Road in Frankfort, faces a misdemeanor DUI charge.

The head coach of a Bremen District 228 girls basketball team was charged with misdemeanor DUI earlier this month in Frankfort, according to police reports. 

Hillcrest High School coach John Maniatis, 46, of the 400 block of Pleasant Hill Road in Frankfort, was arrested around 12:45 a.m. April 4, after police noticed erratic driving. He was also cited for improper lane usage and an improper turn at an intersection.

In addition to his role as coach, Maniatis also serves as a social studies teacher, Bremen District 228 Superintendent Bill Kendall told Sun-Times Media Monday. He has worked at the school, 17401 S. Pulaski Rd. in Country Club Hills, for nearly 20 years.

Disciplinary action had not been taken as of Monday.

An officer reportedly noticed the vehicle traveling 20 mph in a 40 mph zone, along with erratic driving, Frankfort Deputy Police Deputy Chief Kevin Keegan told Sun-Times Media.

Maniatis later failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
