Steep Bill at Outriggers Spurs Attack That Sends Manager to Hospital

A Mokena man who sent a restaurant manager to the hospital with broken ribs and a collapsed lung on March 18 faces battery charges, according to a Tinley Park police report.

Distraught over his supposedly high bill, Donovan L. Campbell, 40, of the 11100 block of McGovney Street in Mokena, confronted the manager at Outriggers around 10 p.m. last Friday, slapped him in the face and punched his chest when asked to leave, police said.

Witnesses told police that Campbell then put the 55-year-old manager in a choke hold and wrestled him to the ground. Restaurant employees eventually freed their boss and restrained Campbell until police arrived.

Campbell’s ex-wife and 8-year-old son were taken to the Tinley Park police station so they could find a safe ride home. She was too drunk to drive, police said.

The manager was taken to Palos Community Hospital complaining of chest pains and later transferred to Christ Medical Center. He suffered eight broken ribs and a collapsed lung, police said.

Campbell was charged with battery, though police said they will speak with the manager once he’s released from the hospital about upgrading the charges to aggravated battery.
