Stolen Credit Card Used for Shopping Spree at Super Target in Tinley Park

Police say credit cards from victim's purse stolen at Michael's Arts & Crafts were used at the nearby Super Target for dresses and prepaid gift cards.

Police received a report from a customer at Michaels Arts & Crafts Store in Tinley Park who said her purse was stolen from her shopping cart, and at least one of her credit cards was used in a shopping spree.

The victim, a Tinley Park resident, told police that a woman approached her in an aisle at Michaels, 7310 W. 191st St., around noon on Aug. 11 and asked the victim to read a package for her. The woman then walked away from the victim and left the store.

While checking out, the victim noticed that her purse was missing from her shopping cart. She called both her bank and credit card companies to cancel the cards in her purse. The bank told the victim that one of her credit cards was used to purchase $1,411.58 worth of merchandise, including dresses and prepaid gift cards, from Super Target, 7300 W. 191st St., and approximately $50 of merchandise from a Bed, Bath & Beyond (location not specified).

went to Super Target and spoke with a loss prevention officer, who said there was surveillance video of a customer making the large purchase and video of a second suspect attempting to use the victim's other credit card as well. The loss prevention officer said a store clerk denied the attempted purchase by the male because he could not produce proper identification.

According to the police report, the loss prevention officer said the card the male was attempting to use had the victim's name on it.

The loss prevention officer also noted that the two suspects were offenders in another theft/credit card fraud case on July 21, 2011 at the store.
